And some of the starters would depend on matchups with opponents I am sure. Berget in the starting XI may be a better option than ITS or Medina against some teams.
I would love to see Lewis serving some crosses in to Berget.

Yeah, I think we will see a little more shuffling of lineups based off of what tactics Dome is trying to pull. With Vieira it was always the same tactics, so the only time we really saw change was due to injury, suspension, or someone was playing so poorly they got yanked from the lineup.

It will be interesting to see what formation, tactical, and lineup changes Dome makes once he gets a better handle on opponents after playing them once or twice. I believe it will be fun for us to predict these lineups because of this, as now we have the added notion of what tactics we use going into the match. Does Dome go for size and holdup play or speed to latch onto balls over the top? Does he want possession based wingers or chaotic skill 1v1 and speed wings? Is he going to stock up midfield or add support to the wings?

I for one am loving Dome and his tactics so far, pineapple hat notwithstanding. Let's see what the rest of the year has in store.

I think they having 4 good attackers in Lewis, ITS, Medina and Berget is a good problem but they are all good enough to be starters and impact players. Eventually someone will be unhappy not seeing the minutes they believe they deserve and will want to be starters. I can fully see one of the 4 not being happy and ask to be traded or sold.

So, once everyone is healthy, you can start 3 of the guys below and take 1 - maybe 2 - off the bench. Whom do you pick?

Berget
Lewis
Matarrita
McNamara
Medina
Tajouri-Shradi
Villa
Wallace

If Berget can keep up his pre-injury form, it's looking like no matter who we throw out there (with the exception of Wallace and Tommy) the frontline will manage to put up numbers to give us shots at winning. I wouldn't hate cycling any of the other 6 players through our lineup to keep Villa fresh and to not have to rush players back from injuries.

On the next episode of Dome being weirded out by MLS...

Dome: So Claudio, how many trophies can we win in a season?
Claudio: Uh, technically five.
Dome: Wow, five. That's more than the quadruple people said Pep should win at Manchester. That's a lot of cup competitions. Why so many tournaments?
Claudio: Well there's the FIFA Club World Cup.
Dome: I don't care about that.
Claudio: Well it's taking place in Abu Dhabi so it would be good to have a City team or two there.
Dome: And Champions League?
Claudio: Yeah, but that's during the preseason?
Dome: So it's a preseason tournament?
Claudio: No, it just takes place during February through April during the preseason and early parts of our season.
Dome: Oh, so that's going to be bad for our players. So what other cup competition is there?
Claudio : The US Open Cup, like our FA Cup.
Dome: Okay so what's the other two trophies.
Claudio: We have the Supporters' Shield which is the team at the top of the table at the end of the season. And then there's MLS Cup.
Dome: What's MLS Cup?
Claudio: It's the playoffs after the league.
Dome: Oh, like in basketball, I like basketball. When is that?
Claudio: November and December.
Dome: How many teams are in it?
Claudio: 12.
Dome: That's like half the league.

I read this whole post waiting for a punchline.

Technically this season it's one more team than half the league, since west have 6|6 and east as 6|5, lol.
With the additions of Miami, Nashville, and Cincinatti (will we see Chicago move to the western conference and destroy them even more than they already were with that shitty commute across the country?), it'll make it so it's actually less than half the league.
But at that point, why not have every team make the playoffs so even teams like Orlando can say they've been in a playoff? :D

psst we might be good now

Nice! But that only tells half of the story. Are these events taking place because of when the respective opponent gets the ball on the field relative to where Sweat/Tinny is? Or is it a factor of the help each player gets to close down passing lanes thus isolating the opponent to be tackled (Ofori shifts left and he’s not a lot of defensive help while Ring plays more on the right and is a terror)? Or does each player have different tactical instructions on where to be positioned?

There are lots of variables that are missing from the graphics that influence the interpretation.

This is a friendly reminder, this match is in Orlando.

I can't imagine on a Thursday night that many NYCFC will be traveling for this one.

(I'll be there.)
I hear u. Living in Tampa I thought there might be a few folks down here or some traveling fans to connect with.

Yeah soccer's a complex game. Last night I tweeted some 23-team defensive pressure graphics that show NYCFC slightly stronger on the left flank than the right, although the difference has more to do with the midfielders and center backs than the fullbacks. Several of the American Soccer Analysis guys are working on defensive analytics right now, so maybe eventually we'll have more sophisticated ways to draw conclusions from data about how good particular defenders are at their job. For now I just think this stuff's helpful for thinking about how the team plays.

I watched a chunk of the ORL-Crew game after their rain delay. Chris Schuler as a backup to Spector is barely serviceable. The centerback pairing barely worked. I hope Berget is back because I think he can split the defenders all night long. Unless Orlando is successful at hack-a-Max like a lot of our opponents try there should be a ton of through balls on the ground to runners all night. There was also consistently a pocket of space in front of the back line 18-25 yards. The game-winning Trapp goal wasn't even a good example because that space he was in was usually much closer to the goal. Hopefully Ring will be taking some quality open 20 yard bombs. I wouldn't be surprised to see TMac in the game if we need goals the 2nd half because open shots from that range is what he does best.

I have no idea why the Coach was playing Pinho over Dwyer.

I think NYCFC should shred the Orlando D. A couple early demoralizing goals after Orlando lost 3 points in the last 5 minutes would be perfect.
