A 1-1 draw in Chicago. Moralez gave up a ball inside our own box leading to Chicago's lone goal. He also picked up a yellow card and thus will miss our next game (10/15 at New England). He also put up an assist on David Villa's 20th of the season.

First off I won't even mention the first goal that was shit on so many different levels. Now that I've gotten that out of the way I'm going to go on a bit of a rant. This game was 95% on Vieira. We played against one of the most narrow teams in the league and decided to play a midfielder at winger.I don't give a shit how bad Wallace's finishing was against Montreal that was just so fucking dumb. When we brought in Wallace I was absolutely shocked we started creating chances. But seriously how the fuck did Vieira think that was a good idea to start Tommy. Also this game was screaming for Mata to bomb down the wing overlapping Wallace but instead we used to subs including Shelton who again I won't go into because there's no need to explain how shit he is. Fuck this team, fuck Vieira, and fuck life.

I'm actually thinking that one upside of falling to 3rd place is it would be our best chance to win a playoff game. Which would mean 3 more times.
Corresponding downside: It's twice as expensive just to watch them bomb out in the same round.

It's actually pretty interesting to see how different opinions on the forums and Reddit are. On /r/nycfc this rant is at -1 karma and on here I already have 2 likes.

EDIT: His actual last appearance was for 17 versus Portland. He started and played 55 minutes versus SKC. His last goal was against New England with 5 minutes on the field as a sub with a game winning goal in stoppage time. The LA game was the match prior to New England.

Feels like Maxi is in full martyrdom mode against MLS refereeing to the point where he was so focused on trying to prove that nobody's ever gonna give him a foul that he gave up a goal. And it was even more painful given that Chicago had nothing on for the rest of the match and Atlanta dropped points against the Revs.

We look terrible in the final third. Maybe it's this weird experiment with Maxi and Tommy at left wing, but we are also technically horrible and have no fluency at all.

What is going on with Lewis and how could he possibly be worse than our left wing situation and / or Shelton?

Either Mata reminded us how good we could be at left back or Sweat seems to have lost all the mojo he showed us up until now.

I hope Ring and Herrera can play themselves back into form before long.

The only consolation for me after this match is that skipping the first round of playoffs hasn't correlated too well to MLS Cup success in recent times.

Chicago is no pushover at home, in most cases you'd be happy with a point, especially on the back of two road games in four nights. Coming into the game CHI had scored 37 and let up 11 at home.

NYCFC kept CHI without a shot on target in the second half and generally had all of the scoring chances. In most cases you'll take that type of performance on the road every day.

One other thing: don't panic if ATL wins against MIN and moves into second place. Their final two games are against Jersey who will need to win to get into the playoffs (at Jersey) and home against one of the best MLS teams of all time. While at NE and home against CLB is not easy, it's not as hard as the ATL schedule. Just need to be better than ATL in the final two games.

Watching the post game press conference and it was just four questions, three by one guy and other being Mark Booth (our website managing director), Vieira admitted that he had the wrong approach to the game in terms of the lineup and after making some changes things looked better in the second half.

They could quite reasonably get to 60 which in many years would win the shield. Still a great year no matter what.

We could have used Lewis starting opposite Harrison. Keep fcking Polster on his heels and half of Chicago's attacks never would have started.

How the Fck is Vieira manager if he's too myopic to see which tactics break down and/or nullify the other team?!?! It doesn't take a lot of mental strength to see that chicago is at their best when Polster is on his front foot attacking - put Lewis out there to punish him when he goes forward.... but instead we had the most overpriced Irish-American traffic cone flailing his arms again. I can only hope all of these recent minutes are to raise his trade value so he actually has film of him on the field and not in street clothes.

Not sure about the shepherding.... but it did look like Polster pulled Maxi away from the ball with his left arm wrapped over his shoulder. The separation from the ball went from on his foot to a good two-three feet away. That's how their striker was able to completely tee up on the ball.
