How exactly does the expansion draft work? I'm a relatively new fan, when it comes to MLS, and I have no idea what an expansion draft is or how it works. Would someone be so kind as to explain it to me?

There's another forum that explains this question already, I believe.

But essentially, expansion drafts are held when an expansion occurs (surprise, surprise) and what happens is the existing teams can protect 11 players on their roster (with a few exceptions that allow them to protect a few more even) and then the new club is allowed to pick 1 player per club for a total of like 10 or 11 players.
