EA released the World Cup update for FIFA 18 today, if you want to get frustrated all over again in the stadiums of Russia.

PES really is a great game. You won't find the same level of online engagement but for solo play it's awesome. So much more fluid and feels much better weighted than FIFA to me. Give the demo a shot. I think you'll like it.

Well, I'm making the mistake of trying to play World Cup matches online and re-learning the lesson that playing against real people is utterly pointless.

Is it me or does WC mode play differently? Maybe I just haven’t played in a long time but it feels really weird. Not a fan at all.
Something that’s always bothered me about FIFA is the AI. Opponent AI pressures and closes space in an instant. My AI backs off as opponent dribbles into the 18.

Maybe that explains this, then: I've actually managed to string together four wins in a row.

no lie, i packed Cristiano Ronaldo in the first WC pack I opened. Hate him IRL, but the dude is hands down a beast in this game. Averaging something like 1.5 goals / game with him online.

If you're looking to win Seasons, play as France. Every time I've played against them I've been utterly annihilated no matter what I do, so EA is clearly choosing to super OP them since the WC win.

ETA: okay, I've scraped out one draw.

EATA: people are clearly figuring this out because I come up against France more and more often.

I freaking love the WC mode. It’s back to how the game was when it was released. I hope they have balls to release and keep the game just like that going forward.

I’m pretty much down to playing only pro clubs and WC mode.

Let’s hope ‘19 is more like WC mode...IIRC that was how it seemed to work from 14 WC mode to 15.
