General MLS Discussion

If people think we're over-exaggerating our attendance, oh boy look at LAFC. Their stadium in the highlights is not even _close_ to full yet they announced 22,100 which is higher than their full stadium capacity lol

they very well may have sold out their stadium. it's just that many of the fans make their way over to the standing only supporters section. just looking at that section, you can tell it is packed tight. when they opened the stadium last year, many LAFC fans said this was exactly what they and many others did.

their supporters section is pretty impressive. they are loud and proud. I remember watching a video where the main supporter groups sent a small contingent to Borrussia Dortmund to learn about the yellow wall and supporter group organization and culture. You can tell they mimic the yellow wall pretty well. I wish our supporters never stopped singing.. but they do.

that's really interesting actually. So they just let anyone into the supporter section? Would be great if NYCFC let us do that...

don't they? I walk by the supporters section entrances all the time and I have yet to see anybody guarding them. they are the cheapest seats in the house. Unlike the 100 level sections, I don't think there are any ushers checking tickets.. but I've never tried so *shrug*

...wheneverr I go there there's a person standing watching for tickets. weird...

And I think their supporters section has gone a great job at making their own unique chants.

Warshaw has a rather helpful article on the logic behind Montreal hiring Cabrera.

It looks like Cabrera is on an interim contract. Montreal decided it had to make a move, and thinks it can still salvage the season. They want experience, and someone from outside MLS probably can't figure things out that fast. Cabrera at least has a chance. And from his oint of view, it's an opportunity to show what he can do in an organization that isn't as dysfunctional as Houston.

Zlatan talking about everyone's favorite ref Allen Chapman.

Also, he is right about his thoughts on MLS when asked about Rooney leaving. Officiating is bad and too much travel. Garber can't like him and Rooney beating up on MLS. Not a good look.

pretty serious considering chapman was MLS ref of the year or whatever recently. to say MLS's so called "best ref" needs to go back to school just shows how poor refs in MLS are. he's not the first player or coach to talk negatively about the refs and I would imagine there would be more negativity if the league wasn't going around fining everyone who does it. Zlatan gives zero shits about getting a fine. MLS needs him more than he needs MLS. plain and simple.

Even Dome has said as much after #throwingate... the refs hold back this league.

rumor is Newcastle is eyeing Martinez.
I wonder if Almiron told them he loves Josef and their partnership is amazing.

God I’d love to watch EPL defenders pound Martinez with his cheap shot antics. And EPL clubs will definitely not allow him to get into track races, the field aren’t designed for it, and the defenders will plant him in the turf before they allow him to race through.

LAFC's Diomande enters rehab with no expected date of return. He's been an irregular starter, but played in 25 games and has 8G, 7A for 0.94 G+A/90 which is rather good.

sad to hear he was dealing with such issues but great that he's aware enough to check himself into rehab. he was a good player for LAFC. not a superstar, but he was a presence in the box for sure and he will be missed for LAFC's playoff push.

The better refereeing in the EPL alone would keep him from being successful. The higher quality defenders will frustrate him more and he'll cower in fear. He claims he'll never leave ATL cause of all the love he gets... such BS. Any true footballer would aim for the highest level of competition. He won't go cause he knows he'd fail and become a nobody whereas in ATL he's treated as a god.
