Reading this makes me even more mad at Lampard. I bet he thought he could just roll up half way in the season and tear it up because 'it's MLS'. The attitude Gerrard talks about has been demonstrated by certain DP players in MLS for years; and they were disasters.
If you are not fully committed even if this league is not that great you get found out, the latest being Maloney at Chicago.
Now to broaden it out, do you think CFG are just as guilty as Frank (IMO) of underestimating the league? Kreis said before the season it was not the best idea to bring DP players midway through the season.
Now was he not listened to? Was he not strong enough in his views to them? Did they just think it's MLS it can't be that difficult? Where does Reyna stand in this? He is responsible for bringing in players too, and so far he ain't no Garth Lagerway!
Are we as fans guilty of underestimating the league as well? Do we think if we had another manager we would get into the playoffs even with a lot of the things Kreis seems to have to deal with behind the scenes?
I must admit I did not think bringing in so many reinforcements half way through the season would be such a bad thing, but the stats show we are worse now.
Even as bad as the team seemed earlier, we more or less started again half way in; with hindsight it was never gonna work that well. We have players now who can't play in they're best position, (I think Mix has to go end of season if Lampard stays 'cause he ain't playing instead of him and Pirlo and is wasted elsewhere IMO), have hardly any pace, nobody good to hold up the ball and no decent holding midfielder.
Maybe the club as a whole, CFG, some players, us fans (to an extent) have been guilty to some degree of underestimated the league.
Finally, lets all hope Lampard does a Maloney and pisses off. He only has a year after this 'season' anyway, if ever fit he will fuck up team shape even more than now; It just won't work here. Lets hope we can cut our losses and maybe get a committed DP who actually fits the team shape, ie support forward or holding midfielder.
Hopefully soon, he will be footnote and turning point for better decisions made by this club.
