MLS H2H league for "points"

Some real movement up top this week. With a poor showing sbrylski falls from 2nd place to 4th (and out of a CL spot). While JayH & mgarbowski both slide up into CL position. As noted by Jack, joe has been on fire and it's also showing as he climbs out of the basement of the regular season table.

Roundup:

Group 1:
It's very interesting that joe , who has been stuck around the bottom of the table this season is DOMINATING in the Pigeon Cup. (or as mgarbowski likes to call it the Blue Bird Cup). Jack meanwhile finds himself on the bottom of his group with a match vs SoupInNYC coming up. He still can finish in 2d place with a win and joe beating Mario .

Group 2:
Sabo (originally from Pot 2) is dominating this group with a nice win over OSNY87 this week to remain in 1st place. I was lucky enough to eek out a win vs JayH , one of the stronger fantasy players in our league to slip into 2nd place. JayH and Sabo now have to match up in 2 weeks for their last group match. Between the 2 of them and myself, one very good player could be going home early if Group 2 doesn't earn a 3rd place tiebreaker. I know everyone feels this way about their own group, but this may really be our Group of Death.

Group 3:
What can I say, mgarbowski is dominating. The man always shows up with the points and he did it again this week, easily disposing of FredMertz to build a large lead in group 3. The big surprise was sbrylski losing the Freddy Jr.! sbrylski is also a player that's been consistently at the top of our regular season table, but a couple of bad results and he finds himself with no points and his last matchup vs the juggernaut that is mgarbowski. And that's not the only juicy matchup in this group. Looks like we have a father-son matchup for the Mertzes that will probably determine 2nd place in the group and advancement for the winner. I wonder who Ethel is rooting for? Will it be more Luke-Vader or Hans-Kylo? We'll find out in 2 weeks!

Good luck to everyone, I'll post the matchups next week for the last group round, as this post has gotten way too long. Enjoy the week off from the cup and get your teams ready!

I think Ethel might have it harder than RJ Allen's parents during Hudson Derby week.

I benched Harrison (9) for Azira (-2) and captained Drogba (0). Jesus Christ.

I actually made the last minute sub of Harrison in for Azira. I said to myself "if I'm going down, I'm going down with my team" and played the hunch. And Jacky Boy put up a 10 spot.

Sorry for getting this out late, but we have some interesting matchups going on right now!!! These are the last group matches and seeding for the knockout round will take place after these results.

GROUP 1
Jack & Mario is basically a match for 2nd place and a spot in the knockout round. Can the team in first place in the table come through on Sunday? With only 2 points separating them, it will be close!!

GROUP 2
I might be able to move into 1st place on the points scored tiebreaker, while JayH & Sabo are also playing for first. Based on the scoring, it looks like even the 3rd place team in this Group of Death should make it into the knockout round.

GROUP 3
The normally solid mgarbowski is putting up a stinker! But it doesnt look like sbrylski is taking advantage of the situation. It's been a woeful tournament for him so far, and even if he could pick up 3 points vs mgarbowski , it might not be enough to even sneak into the knockout round. Meanwhile FredMertz is showing no mercy versus his own son, holding onto a 2 point lead! I'm sure Mrs. Mertz is biting her nails in anticipation!!!

Good luck today everyone!!!

Group 1:

@Jack 44 v @Mario 46
@SoupInNYC 51 v @joe 46

Group 2:

@JayH 41 v @Sabo 40
@adam 44 v @OSNY87 19

Group 3:

@mgarbowski 31 v @sbrylski 39
@FredMertz 52 v FredMertz Jr. 50

Thanks for this. Was last week was a week off for the Cup tournament?

So the final scores in the group stage went like this:

Group 1:
Well it happened. Our top team on the table was eliminated in the group stage. Worse, his team couldn't even earn a point. And joe who's was at one point in dead last in our league has been on a tear storming his way to first place in his group the the most points scored over the group stage. Mario also qualified with 6 points by beating Jack on in the last match and earning 2nd place by the points scored tie breaker. And SoupInNYC handing joe his first loss also got him to 6 points and 3rd place qualification.

@Jack 67 v @Mario 75
@SoupInNYC 79 v @joe 65

Group 2:
The week started with Sabo in first place in the group. But a narrow loss to JayH, and a big win by me over OSNY87, dropped him from first to 3rd. I managed to rig my way into a first place spot and JayH took 2nd place by virtue of the points scored tie breaker. 3 of the 4 teams in Group 2 also qualified for the knockout round by accumulation 6 points in 3 matches.

@JayH 69 v @Sabo 62
@adam 71 v @OSNY87 53

Group 3:
mgarbowski had an off week. But his 2 strong weeks to start the tournament afforded him enough cushion to withstand a loss to sbrylski, who's pride led him to the highest score of the week, even if it wasn't enough to earn him a knockout spot. FredMertz JR also didn't earn a knockout spot, as he was eliminated by his own father. I guess there is no mercy in the Mertz Dojo. Vader would be proud. And FredMertz moves into the knockout stage with his 2nd place finish, as mgarbowski took first through the points scored tiebreaker.
@mgarbowski 61 v @sbrylski 83
@FredMertz 74 v FredMertz Jr. 72

Here's what the final group tables and the knockout bracket now look like:

We have 6 weeks before the first knockout stage match. And some interesting matchups as well. Let's see what form all of these teams are in come mid-September. Interesting that the 2 teams on the top of our table are already eliminated. Did they send their B teams to rest their starting XI for their championship runs? Good luck to everyone who's left and for those that lost, we solute you.

Out of the Cup, but pulled into 2nd in the tables. I just want the Champions League qualification. Jack is up 11 points on me for first, that's basically a lock for the title already.

Round 25 deadline is tomorrow at 7:30pm.

3 games start at 7:30pm and a 4th starts at 8:30pm.

Usually teams post their starting lineups on twitter/instagram 30 mins - 1 hour prior to kick-off.

If you're debating a trade, if applicable, suggest waiting till 6:30pm/7pm to see who will be starting.

Whew. I thought the knockout rounds of the Pigeon Cup started today. Might be the only hope for my fantasy season.

The Cup will resume mid-September. Don't worry, I'll make a post beforehand.

By mid-September we'll all probably have nearly identical teams!

Raise your hand if you have a Villa-Gio-Larin front line.
