Home - 03/15 New England Revolution

They were not very good before they got Jones, he is HUGE for them. And they lost Bunbury, who they run a lot of their wide attack through. This is an eminently winnable game. I really hope Kreis figures out the best lineup, experience be damned and we play like we showed glimpses of in preseason. (second half of houston, ahem)

NE's defense is also very suspect and no one knows what Nyugen has to offer... can he even play a full 90? Of course if we start Nemec and Ballouchy I think we are trouble. Kreis has to be play it less safe.

If Nemec starts we need to get wide and guys like Williams forward, the number of crosses OC had compared to us was embarrassing. This is why I like Shelton at wing

Revs beat Seattle last year 5-0 at Seattle without Jones. Were they better after Jones joined, by a wide mark yes. Were they pretty good before he got there, yes.

They lost Bunbury? When?

I hope that there will be a 50,000 sold out Yankee Stadium for this game.

Is there a verified reliable source as to how many tickets/ attendees expected to show up at the opening game? I reluctantly admit It was a fine effort at the display of support OCSC fans showed up on Sunday. ALL those detestable purple shirts in that Floridian heat will put us to shame if we fail to do the same for our team. Lets ALL wear our blue shirts with pride and create a huge sky blue cloud at YS. We are the Big Apple after all.We should call ourselves The Big Blue Apple

Half the crowd will be in black, half will be in blue.

I have not been able to find out if NE is wearing their home navy jerseys or their red/white aways. Does anybody know?

Here is the Rev's W-L record from last year:

See all those losses (9 out of 10 games) before JJ signed? Revs were 9-12-3 before JJ showed up (Game 25) even though Nyugen was having a MVP year. It's going to be a challenge, but this is a winnable game. Have faith!

As good as Lee Nguyen was last year (and he was one of the best players in MLS), perhaps Jermaine Jones was the Rev's real MVP since he was the player who seems to have impacted the team's results the most.

Are we still certain that Nguyen and Jones are scratched this Sunday?

I know that "Mr. Bunbury" should be unavailable for a few weeks (can't believe that's his name, it's a really funny Oscar Wilde literary reference also)

Jones is definitely a no go for Sunday. He will miss a few more games as well.

Nguyen has had one incredible year (last year) and was mostly so so before that although he won team MVP in a year they lost 17 games. Did he suddenly figure out how be a league MVP last year, or more likely, we will see a regression to the mean this year?

I will be very disappointed if we lose this game this week.

Jones is definitely out because of hernia surgery. Nguyen was questionable but it doesn't look like he was ever going to play last week and is probably iffy this week.

Like the Pats, the Revs are being quiet on player statuses but I think there's at least a 50-50 chance Teal Bunbury will not start on Sunday.

NYCFC Watch is reporting a dislocated shoulder (I haven't seen anything from the Revs) so I gotta believe Teal Bunbury would at least miss this Sunday if not more time.

The Bent Musket article suggests that Bunbury's defensive contributions are as important as his offensive ones -- so attacking down the flanks will be important. While our field is not that wide, we would be better off using as much of the field as possible.

Either Kelyn Rowe or Juan Agudelo could push out wide (in the former case, Lee Nguyen is back in; and in later case, Charlie Davies starts up top). The article also says that Sean Okoli or Steve Neumann could also replace Bunbury, but I think they are more likely to be subs. I didn't see that much of the game against the Sounders so I don't know how Andy Dorman and Diego Fagundez did; Kelyn Rowe could fill in elsewhere on the field even if Nguyen, Davies and Agudelo start. Here's the Rev's lineup against Seattle:

Bobby Shuttleworth; Kevin Alston, Andrew Farrell, Jose Goncalves ©, Chris Tierney; Andy Dorman (Daigo Kobayashi 57’), Scott Caldwell; Teal Bunbury, Kelyn Rowe, Diego Fagundez (Steve Neumann 77’); Juan Agudelo (Sean Okoli 68’).

Revs have been strong contenders the last 2 years. Heaps has a very Kreis-like history. Defensive minded, possession, quick attacking, discipline and besides both being former MLS players are also both Duke grads.

Clogging the midfield and crossing the ball (Nemec?) might be a sound strategy.
