If they were this close to cutting off funding, they wouldn't have OK'ed one of the league's largest transfers in history 11 months ago. It doesn't make business sense. The team isn't spending this offseason because they have one of the best rosters in the league. They've clearly decided that last postseason was a fluke and they want another kick at the can with this group. If they are cutting off funding, why is the team bulking up its front office? Why weren't high-priced players sold this offseason? It just doesn't make any sense.
Also $400K for Coney Island, a little 7,000 seat minor league stadium, makes no sense. That place hosted a rugby team that got very little attendance -- no chance that team could have afforded such a high fee for that stadium, and it strains credulity to think they're charging different teams different fees.
