Jon Lewis US U-20 thread

Watched from around the 20th to 60th minute and Lewis and Lennon were absolutely the best players on the field. Whether we are winning or losing this year, I want Lewis to sub in every game around the 65 minute mark. He's either a super sub, or will be deadly on the counter when teams are looking for an equalizer

Who do you want starting for him to sub in for? I like his skill set on left wing better than Macnamara, seems to have better vision and ball skills than shelton, and We haven't seen camargo for some reason in any games. I also seem to remember that Camargo is a right sided player.

Personally, and I get we haven't seen him yet, but I think it would be a super deadly triumvenate(don't get to use that word everyday) if we just keep rotating Wallace, Matarrita, and Lewis on that left side. Obviously Lewis can't play LB, but Wallace and Mata can do both. Our team would be super fresh in this scenario. I guess all I just said is conditional on Wallace playing like he did with Portland and it seems he played well most recently in Brazil.

Even if you keep T-Mac out left, if you sub in Lewis it instantly creates a huge spark.

Shit i knew i was forgetting someone. Wallace. I think he will start the season there too. I think we will see frequent subs on the wings though. PV seemed to like to do that for fresh legs last year.

The 433 is not supposed to have the wings playing as much defense as we did last year anyway. thats a 451. The threat of a counter attack needs to be enough to keep the opposing fullbacks honest in a 433.

Well, then we don't actually play a 4-3-3. I don't think Vieira is concerned with what it's supposed to play like. But this is semantics.

We play a 2-7-1 that morphs to need, focuses on short passing and build up play, forming triangles, and high pressing on defense.

We have played a 451, but it seems to me they are trying to play a legit 433 based on how mad villa gets when the wings don't stay high on defense.

Rewatching some of the highlights from yesterday, I think Lewis is our fastest player. On the play he drew the PK on he was four or five strides behind the defender and just completely blew by him.

Play high, or hustle? I think our wingers are just expected to do it all - high press and track back. Be up on the ball, and if it gets past, get you ass back, all the way to the end line if necessary.

True i think that's the expectation, but you can only whip a horse so hard. In practice you only really get the defense or the offense from those guys. Both is a lot to ask.

Thank you!

Just also found it on TV. If you have FIOS it's on channel 1539. Univision Deportes. Why do I have that channel? Who the hell knows. But I'm happy I do
Ah that's right watched the last game on that channel as well.
