I love Silva and think the world of him as a player. But we can't have him be our Villa. He'd end up looking about the same the same as a combo of Mix/Maxi sans Villa. Guys like Silva thrive when they have incremental quality around them.
Villa can just get it done on his own. It's like saying you'd take iniesta over Suarez. That's cute. But if you want to win, you'd be so wrong to do that.
I see what you mean. But I see in Silva the ability to evolve, just as Villa has. Post-Valencia, Villa was shooting fish in a barrel. He had to learn again how to provide for himself. As such, I think Silva can learn to be more assertive and direct in MLS.
I'm already seeing changes in his play for the mothership.
He wouldn't score 15 goals in there weren't a defense, though. Got to have striker.
I would argue that pace can mean plenty in that scenario, but you need to have enough of an understanding between your players to be able to guarantee that when you make a run in a tight space, the ball will actually come to you. KDB and Silva both proved a few times that a well-timed through ball on the ground or over the top can create a fantastic chance when played to a teammate with pace. What kills a game, though, is when your players don't have enough understanding to be able to know when their teammates are making those runs/going to send them those balls, or alternatively when your team doesn't have the creativity/confidence to be able to chance them in the first place. That was a little lacking, but it will hopefully come with time because we are going to play a lot of teams who sit 11 men on the 18 yard box this year.
I honestly think he comes next year (supposing that the 12 month gap doesn't allow PSG to charge in or see him cave in to signing a new contract). I just don't see Txiki being willing to pay the transfer fee Arsenal would demand.
I'd like to think he'll do it sooner than that. He only needs 7 more to equal the record. That said, it's an open question whether or not he starts to see less game time, what with Jesus and with Pep clearly having eyes for another striker in the squad.
I don't think that will be happening. He wants to go back to Spain. It's my understanding he is negotiating with Las Palmas in Gran Canaria for after his contract is up.
By many accounts, he has already signed a contract to join them in 2019 (pending their continued survival against relegation from La Liga). It's particularly emotive for him as Las Palmas are his hometown club, and for his whole professional career up until a couple of years ago, they were a lower-league team.

I'm not sure either player should have seen red. Disappointing result from most perspectives. Going in I would have wanted a win and I think City controlled most of the game despite being down a man for so long. Of course the glass is half full view is that they played for so long a man down and came from behind for the draw against fairly strong opposition.
It was a well taken goal from Sterling who missed an easier chance earlier.
Sane was terrible hopefully it was a one off stinker but I'd Start Sterling or Silva 2 next match if just to send a message to him that with City's depth a crap performance like that won't be tolerated and push him to be better.

Dang, I thought that was the best game I've seen yet this season. Both teams played out of their skins. What City and Pep pulled off with 10 men was incredibly daring, completely impossible with players of lower calibre, and a joy to watch. I thought the result would have been heartening, in spite of the referee meddling. Sane tried to redeem himself but at this point I'd love to see more of Bernardo in his place.
Well that was a little bit nuts! Man City wins 2-1 against Bournemouth with Sterling scoring the winning goal in the 96th minute. And then getting ejected for excessive celebration in the crowd that ran on the field.
Still not thrilled with the performances so far this year in comparison to the talent of the squad/money spent but 7 points out of 9 isn't terrible and I still they'll gel eventually and get better.
Sterling can still be frustrating at times with his finishing but he's come up big two matches in a row when it mattered most. The sending off was as ridiculous as some of our (NYCFC) recent bookings and suspensions. Then one of their steward's is claiming Aguero clocked him? What a bonkers end to the match.
In many circumstances I'd agree with Bournmouth feeling aggrieved about the 7 minutes of stoppage time played when 5 were announced I can still remember the injustice I felt when Owen Scored for Manure against us past the allotted stoppage time the year before we won our first title BUT the Cherries were wasting so much time it was almost the 91st before play even resumed after the 5 was flashed it's willful ignorance for them to complain about it when they have to be able to see how much time they wasted both before and after the 90 that justified it being added on.

Plus they made a sub in stoppage time, and a sub is taken by FIFA to equate to a further 30 seconds being added on.
Incidentally, the assault claim by the steward has been withdrawn, it sounds like probably because City stepped in and showed video evidence to Bournemouth, and accused the steward of lying.

It's not really Bournemouth's fault their steward shot his mouth off. They did do the right thing by pressuring him into retracting his claim, though. If one club - or their stewards - start throwing law suits around at other clubs or their players, it risks opening up a big ol' can of worms. There's a reason that players agree to let all disputes be settled by footballing authorities.
