Man City Discussion

Pep definitely has his team now, or close to it at least. If anything he could upgrade Fernandinho but even he has played very well.
Loving the additions this year.

It's a long season and injuries are the biggest enemy. Familiar problem for the entire CFG pipeline.

Look at the bench today. Some of them were starters last year. We added players and have a lot of depth now to get us through a long season.

Uh, being a starter last year means nothing. Look at TMac and Pirlo.

Please don't compare tmac of any year to the likes of sane, Sterling, yaya, etc. come on man.
You're missing the point though, those guys are good, but are they good enough to let MCFC excel compared to the rest of the top/middle EPL teams, or are they good enough to keep the game honest as a 50/50 or not even that? A long EPL season coupled with Champions league, national team duty, and potential fatigue and/or injuries are a lot of variables. Plus, all the guys you mentioned are in front of the defenders. Lose a defender or two and you may want to revise your response.

We are gonna have to agree to disagree here. You're being incredibly pessimistic.
Danilo and Bernardo were both on the bench today. Yaya didn't even crack the 11, Mangala is a very capable CB. Remember Kompany? Tosin? City are very high on him and signed him to a big deal this year, he also featured in champions league last year. That's 3 backup CB's. Danilo, Mendy, Walker as fullbacks. If anything our only soft spot is LB with only having Mendy but Danilo has played both sides for us already. You do know the other top teams are also in European competition right? So when we have a midweek game so do they. It's not like we are the only team playing more than once a week. They did it this week and were very successful meanwhile Liverpool and Tottenham both dropped points. The other 4 clubs in European competition play tomorrow.
None of them are as deep as city is. Or do you think otherwise? The comment about injuries.. really? That's like saying well if the team plane crashes they're really in trouble as a counter argument. No kidding. Injuries happen to every club. They have players that can step in.
Youngsters on the come up too with Maffeo and Foden.

I'm not being pessimistic, I'm being realistic 5 games into the season.

But yes, we will agree to disagree.

While I agree that we have a lot of depth, I have to agree with Ulrich about the depth in defence.

You talk about Tosin and Mangala but Pep doesn't honestly fancy either of them - he was trying his best to sell Mangala up to the very end of the transfer window, and for all that Tosin has been given a new contract he's been nowhere near getting an appearance any time recently and my gut feeling is that they've done it so that they can fetch a fee for him next season rather than him going on a free.

Kompany is always one unlucky incident from an injury, and Otamendi has blown hot and cold for his whole time in Manchester, with many being of the opinion that he just wasn't built for English football. Maybe he's turned the corner this season, but maybe he hasn't.

I'm not going to wail on Stones because I don't think he's half as bad as people like to say, but even with that, him and a semi-present Kompany are not enough of a solid foundation to go a whole season for. Much as I despise signing former Un*ted players, we really needed to make a signing like Jonny Evans this summer.

It's a serious injury. And thank god he wore a seatbelt otherwise it could have been much, much worse.

Always wear a seatbelt. Always. Always.

Hoping that his son wasn't in the car with him. Was said that he was there to pick up his son and attend a concert before flying back to Manchester. All the people railing on him for being away two days before a big game are pathetic.

Ridiculously but sadly not surprisingly you have City fans who are angry at Augero for attending a concert in Amsterdam days before the Chelsea match. It's an utter fluke thing, I could understand if he was drunk driving or speeding while driving himself in a sports car but in a cab with his seat belt on I don't see how you can fault the guy at all. He knows what he's doing as a long time professional and I'm sure if not for insane bad luck he'd have played well on Saturday.

What a match. Outplayed Chelsea every minute of it. The pressing is lightyears ahead of where we were last season. They press together and rest in possession, playing peps game. DeBruyne is the best midfielder in the prem. Easily.

Conte lost the game when he replaced Morata with Willian -- played right into Pep's hands giving him the opportunity to press even more aggressively. A rare tactical boo-boo for Conte.

Yeah, I would have loved to have seen the tactical battle play out with Morata on the pitch. Part of why City could press so high and effectively is the relative lack of outlet option.

That wasn't a tactical substitution though as I think he pulled up with a hamstring or something. Happened in the 35th minute.
