Man City Discussion

He’s absolutely trash. Would rather one of the youngsters in his place. I can see us buying a CB. Even when Laporte comes back it still leaves us with him and Stones.

he is. he's not good on the ball. he's not good in the air. he's terrible 1v1 cause he has zero pace. he has zero pace. he's a liability every single game. I can live with Laporte and Stones, but Stones isn't exactly living up to his billing either.

Agreed. I think much of the reason Stones hasn’t shined is he’s playing alongside Fernandinho or Otamendi. They’re both a liability. Fernandinho has actually surprised me as he hasn’t made terrible mistakes but his positioning has cost him a few times. Even today’s tying goal went between his legs for the tap in.

can't really blame fernandinho for his positioning. he's a D-mid filling in at CB. he's doing a better job at it than otamendi is.

With Laporte returning in the new year, City have a decent chance of making a run in champions league if Laporte and Stones are both fit. They've both been out of it for awhile though, so who knows how quickly they'll be able to get their minds back into it.

I would say barring any implosion from liverpool, their EPL title hopes are pretty much gone. they should focus on champions league.

Sterling's giveaway for Wolves' first goal smh

what killed me is that he gave it away and then just stood there, knowing full well that (1) he gave it away (2) he gave it away to one of wolve's best attackers and (3) they were down a man. he should have busted his ass back to make some kind of defensive play. but he just stood there and watched. KILLED ME.

I wouldn't blame Fernandinho for his positioning either, but his appetite for risk is inappropriate as a CB. Both with regard to his positioning and his readiness to go to ground. I don't blame him because it's hard to just wipe away years of calibration for the role of a CDM (which has the insurance policy of 2 CBs behind). Feels like one of those cases where Pep underestimates differences in roles and how long it takes for players to calibrate for them.

Just finished watching and the Mendy error is an obvious smh moment.

But also thought the KdB sub was a strange one. Seemed like City were much more able to give themselves a breather in the 5-2-2 and KdB on the field.

Also thought playing 4-4-1 had a similar effect in the sense that putting more men higher up the pitch made it easier to keep the ball there.

In a sense it felt very un-Pep.

They were up 2 and pep was looking ahead to Sunday. He wasn't expecting his team to fall apart even with one man down.

He looked like a man who had given up in the post match. Not his usual.

City win 3-1 away to United in the first leg of the league cup trophy. Think we're getting a Leicester-Citeh final here. I'd actually love to see Leicester win another trophy in most circumstances but don't see it happening here.

Aguero now the all time leading non English EPL scorer . And he adds a third passing shearer for most career EPL hattricks

Subject to appeal before the Court of Arbitration for sport:

The Etihad sponsorship is at the center of it.

This might be why they have hinted it is changing. Maybe they thought that if they signal the sponsorship is ending they wouldn't get slammed.

Manchester City will appeal to CAS - and likely win or reach a settlement. It won't affect this year. Probably not next year, either, if the administration of the appeal takes time.
The Chelsea transfer ban was imposed February 2019 and overturned by the CAS December 2019. The CAS don't play around.

Agreed on CAS - but if the timing is the same (February 2020, December 2020), it seems that next season in the CL would begin prior to a decision, leading to a deferral of any penalty until 2021/2022 CL.

I think there's a decent chance this is turned over by CAS or at least severely lessened. Rodney Marsh suggesting on twitter that Mansour might look to sell if the ban isn't overturned, wonder if that would be all soccer assets including us? I think Financial Fairplay is and always has been a farce if it's to be anything other than a complete open market I'd like to see an actual salary cap or a luxury tax .
