Matthew Dunn

Dunn Dunn Dunn
His twitter account gained 48 followers since I followed him like 40 mins ago.

Trying to find tidbits around the web about him. This site projected him to be picked 12th by Portland, and said:

The 20 year-old from Music City Dunn has been around the world growing up in the Bundesliga and later in Belgrade before coming back to Chivas via the waiver draft. Dunn is able to use both feet, has great ball control and reads the game well. He’s the sort of player who would thrive under the cerebral Caleb Porter.

Woah, did anyone know he won POTM for the Goats in both September and October last year? It was selected by fan voting, the people who actually watch the games. How was that not picked up in pre-draft articles?

Young midfielder Matthew Dunn has a fair number of fans out there, as he won his second consecutive Chivas USA Player of the Month award, this time for October 2014.

Dunn played in three of the Goats' four games in the club's final month, with two of those games being wins to go into soccer heaven on a bright note. And he played a full 90 in all three games, as he worked his way into Wilmer Cabrera's squad.

He seems like a smart pick - even knows the right things to say and is grateful:

"It's a club with a big future and I think one that has the ability to have a lot of success in the first season and I'm really excited to be a part of that. It's a dream move for me, being such a young player, there's so much I can learn from the players that NYCFC already have on the roster." Love this pick! This is the way to build a franchise, and he's local, that's a special bonus. Everything i've read about him shows him to be a special young player, and rising!

...enroll at the University of Maine at Fort Kent in 2013, where he made an instant impression scoring 7 goals and 10 assists in 17 appearances.

Dunn left UMFK to enter the MLS Waiver Draft and was selected by Chivas USA on April 17, 2014. Dunn finished the season strongly at the end of Chivas USA's last campaign in Major League Soccer, making seven appearances and earning player of the month for the final two months of the season.

Yeah, sounds like the club knew exactly what they were looking at with this kid, even if no one writing draft previews had really noticed him.

Cabrera on Dunn when they signed him back in April:
“Matt is a young player who has been developed at the international level in Germany, Serbia and Switzerland, as well as in the United States,” said Chivas USA Head Coach Wilmer Cabrera. “His ability to adapt to different environments and styles has allowed him to learn how to read the game very well. His knowledge, together with his good pace, touches on the ball and eagerness to help win the ball will be key to our team’s success moving forward.”

Well....kreis is the one who brought kyle beckerman to real salt lake and helped him become what he is. Kreis is great at getting young talented players and helping them realize their potential. Also beckerman belonged to a team that got defunct as well....one more thing he has in common with Dunn I guess :)

great pick.

And it looks like Cabrera was pretty familiar with Dunn before he was signed by Chivas.
Dunn (pictured above) captained the United States (under current Chivas USA head coach Wilmer Cabrera) at the 2011 U-17 World Cup in Mexico, where Dunn played in all four games and led the US to the second round, where they lost to Germany.

International leadership experience, trained in academies in Germany and Serbia, well liked by his former coach. I'm really liking this pick, especially with Kreis to bring him up.
