Certain leagues are more guilty of this than others. Contracts and money give me a reason to pay attention to the NHL in the middle of July. It just builds interest and keeps people talking.

It's all about protecting the health of the league. The whole systems appears to be set up to keep the league alive and will do whatever it takes to keep it afloat.

And I'm saying transparency is healthy for the league. If we already know they bend rules to help the league at certain moments, just be transparent and say we're making an exemption for the sake of the league in this instance. The other teams know it anyway and the fans know, why pretend?

It will happen. When money is involved and it will hopefully only grow, it'll be just like all the other professional leagues. If you don't like it, might want to stick to college, but even that's corrupt in its own way.
