Maybe they were shopping him around and it didn't work.
Or they were shopping him and then they got an offer for Poku that they couldn't refuse. Now they are afraid to leave themselves short at midfield.

We have had Iraola, Lampard and Mix, all on big salaries and going long stretches of producing little/nothing on the field. Now, it appears as though the first two now have found their form and their place in our system. Hopefully Mix will not be far behind! Despite what little we have seen, their is no question that Mix is one of our eleven most skilled players. The bad news for Mix, is that the first two basically eat up the spots that Mix would be suited for, and Jack is a lock unless he really stalls. That leaves three scenarios in which Mix finds his way into the normal eleven.
1. Obvious, an injury or two. If someone goes down and Mikey Lopez finds his way into the eleven instead of Mix, I will be flummoxed.
2. Tommy Mac loses form, similar to the late portion of last season. Of the front six players, i'd say TMac is the most likely to lose his spot due to form. Judging by what we have seen recently, it seems unlikely that Mix is PV's choice to fill that role, as Khiry/Mehdi/Mikey all seem to be ahead of Mix on the depth chart. This is the most likely spot that Mix could play his way into I believe.
3. PV changes the system from the 4-3-3. This is unlikely as I believe we would have to go on a loooong terrible stretch before PV changes it up, but I guess it's possible. The most Mix friendly formation imo would be a 3-5-2.
So basically, I find it hard to see Mix making it back into the eleven unless Mix blows everyone away with an amazing run in training to convince PV to find him a role. Right now, I don't want to change much from what's working so I don't see a spot for Mix, but it's along season and we have a lot of games left. In the interest of competing for this season, i'd like to keep Mix as great depth instead of trading him for something like draft picks or simply a salary dump. Unless we can replace Mix with a top quality GK or even CB that will immediately improve our chances of MLS Cup, I don't want to get rid of him.
That would be the hope, but as others have worried, we may not get much for him right now due to his salary and whatever his actual cap hit is. Unless we have a cap discount of some sort that carries to the receiving team, they will likely need GAM to take on Mix. The only direct trade that I can see helping us this season would be Mix for an expensive GK/CB that the other team is trying to dump for whatever reason.I think we all agree that if they move mix now, then they need to replace him. But they can just trade Mix for GAM/TAM to another team. As long as they make use of Mix's cap space and the GAM/TAM to sign another player to help us win the east and qualify for CCL.

If we simply trade Mix for draft picks or something future oriented, what can we do this year? Sure it would free up some cap space (how much who knows) on a pro-rated basis that may allow us to sign somebody, but not knowing his cap hit makes it hard to tell what we could get with it.
So, what you're saying is all of the sudden it doesn't look like I was so wrong. SHOCKING, MATE.Then you're not listening. You postulated that his nickname was a contract stunt created by an agent, when it was actually by his mother when he was a child. Therefore his agent and father had nothing to do with it and the snark relating to Kosar was uncalled for.
Now you're talking out of your ass.
Mix had over 30 MNT caps before his hats came out - that's a career for many.
And why should't somebody start a fashion line at any point in their lives - it's no skin off your back or mine.
And it's actually well known where he got his nickname - it's been talked about since he was on the MNT. I cited wiki because I can't cite former broadcasts.
Are you sure you're not trolling? Because this line of posting points to either trolling or so lazy that you cannot do your own research while postulating ideas easily refuted. I'm not sure which is worse.
...Couple that with your dickish reply and limited history here, and I am asking questions.
Spot on. We are first in the east right now, And the most in form team in the league. You don't mortgage the present for the future. If we can't make a deal that improves us and our chances of winning immediately, then you just can't ditch your only competent midfield cover. And that's especially true when our first 3 combine to be older than Methuselah. That would be the hope, but as others have worried, we may not get much for him right now due to his salary and whatever his actual cap hit is. The beauty of MLS! You can make all the spreadsheets you want, and cite all of the articles you want, and quote countless Twitter posts from the MLS "insiders", use the MLSPA salary sheets, but the bottom line is, you don't know shit about how any move will impact our roster. The league has countless intricacies, special rules and sometimes even one-time exceptions, some of which we barely understand, some of which we have never even heard of before that make discussions like this very frustrating. It's tough to talk about a situation like this when we know absolutely nothing for sure. Heck, we don't even know officially who is under contract next season. The cap question I have (which sounds like yours as well) is if his cap hit was brought down by GAM/TAM, and they player is traded/sold (I'm assuming releasing him outright does not free up cap space, but I don't even know that for sure) does the new value vs the cap, minus the GAM/TAM count as what's freed up, or their original value and the GAM/TAM was an artificial modifier to the TEAM CAP?
If I ever win that match in the box with the team president, I am going to annoy the crap out of Particoff & Reyna. And don't think I'm not showing up with spreadsheets in hand. I may be the first person thrown out of the box who won the contest!
I know I've mentioned this before but if this is Lampard's last year (and maybe Pirlo's too) we're going to need Mix. Just because there's no spot for him at the moment doesn't mean we should get rid of him. Not saying he can't be replaced but we're most likely going to lose a star midfielder after the season ends.
I think that pv sees that mix can be a much better player and the time away has been punitive to some degree. I think we all love mix, and the best possible situation is for him to be taught, with tough love if need be, by Vieira and lampard and pirlo to be the best that he can be. I really hope they get through to him, because from a mix fan and mnt fan perspective, he's never going to get better teachers than he has now.Patrick Vieira: Mix Diskerud "has to raise his game" for spot in NYCFC 18
Dylan Butler- MLSsoccer.com
“I think everybody is raising their game, and Mix has to raise his game if he wants to get a spot in our squad,” said NYCFC coach Patrick Vieira. “When you look at the players in training, they are really challenging each other, and I want more from Mix because he’s an international player and he has to deliver. If not, it will be difficult for him to get in the squad.”

It's all about protecting the health of the league. The whole systems appears to be set up to keep the league alive and will do whatever it takes to keep it afloat.I don't know if you've just given up on trying to understand and have to say "that's MLS" sarcastically like I do most the time. But in seriousness, part of the fun of the NFL, NBA, and NHL is knowing all the rules and contract details. It spurs fan involvement and leads to analysis and articles about the teams cap situation and options. I'm not sure why MLS hasn't realized this yet and given us another outlet to help follow the league. It's almost like not allowing fantasy sports for your league. Why wouldn't you want that added exposure? I hope Garber realizes this sooner then later and we can have some real discussions on the state of the teams without shrugging our shoulders at the end and saying well the league will do whatever it wants, so none of our analysis really matters anyway.
I'd be happy if he alternated coming on at 60' for Lampard and PirloSpot on. We are first in the east right now, And the most in form team in the league. I think Mix is our best like for like sub for any of their three roles. I'd love to see him get a run with instructions similar to what they each have now. It seems like PV or the players themselves have crafted three complementary roles. I said before that it looked like Mix was instructed to be Arturo Vidal, and only Vidal can do that. I think he'll really be valuable if allowed to simply step in for one of them and do his best impersonation. That's the value of him being our "bear" (credit to the excellent analogy someone made there).
Now, he could prove incapable of being sufficiently disciplined for that and end up running around like a mad-man anyways, in which case he'll prove he's not the asset I think he is. But I think based on comments by PV that he has been asked to cover a lot more responsibilities in the past (likely due to having Bravo behind him and Shelton/Mendoza on his forward flank). I hope and believe we'll see more of his quality in any of these 3 more defined roles, so I hope he gets the chance.
I hope PV tests out the theory because I believe the team needs Mix the Impersonator to succeed in reaching the heightened goals we have for the season.
Eta TL,DR:
Let's keep him for the sake of now (and for Seth 's point) unless we can get that immediate, obvious upgrade in the form of a new lock starter at another position of weakness.
Ill give the counter point. One of the things that turned me off from the other leagues in USA, was the public negotiations and obsession with money as it relates to players. I hope MLS never changes in that respectI don't know if you've just given up on trying to understand and have to say "that's MLS" sarcastically like I do most the time.
