with how much Pascal has raved about and given chances to the kids, it wouldn't surprise me to see him give Reid the start and keep the rest of the attacking group as it was.

I agree with you that I think this is our best available lineup for next weekend, but I just have a weird feeling Pascal will give the start to Reid.

People forget just how bad of a position we were going into the ECF that year because of the wild Philly drama.
Other MLS fans forget how we were missing Parks and Tinnerholm especially, but I think it's a deep well remembered part of club lore for NYCFC fans. But that team was deeper than this one, and Philly was down almost their entire starting lineup, and at least we got Taty back for Portland. I now have zero expectations for this Philly game, will be elated if we win anyway, and winning out would be extraordinary.
It's not over til it's over, right?

Last time Martinez was out towards the end of the regular season Pascal went with Nico. I can't see him going Reid now that the stakes are even higher, as much as I wish he would. Down the stretch, Pascal tightened up to rotation quite a bit, with most of the young guys on the outside looking in, even Shore has barely played recently. Prior to this tragic Alonso news, I was half expecting him to start Maxi at CM in place of Perea with Ojeda on the wing.

We lost players due to injury in 2021 as well. 3 big players for us... not much different from now. The only difference is philly is at full strength this time.

If we get past philly, i will be very proud of this team and jansen will have coached a master class in tactical play.

I will choose to believe we can still make a run at the cup. The kids are gonna shine and step up.

We absolutely can still win. Maxi needs to have another game like he had in Game 3 against Charlotte and Nico needs to be a DP. Our defense is still going to be good. Our midfield may be overwhelmed with Haak and Shore, which might play into their press. That scares me more than the attack. I think our front-4 can still produce, it's the midfield not being able to progress the ball and we get pressed into turnovers that has me worried.

But yes, the similarities to 2021 are striking. Tinnerholm suffered a season-ending injury before the playoffs. Parks had a blood clot issue that caused him to miss the postseason. And of course Taty with his suspension for the conference final. That team overcame an incredible amount. I don't think this team is as good as that one, but why can't we go into Philly and win? It would be surprising, but not shocking.

Haak can play physical and if he's locked in, he can ball. Shore is definitely a baller and if he can step up to the occasion and fill the role, we should be ok. As I said, we are gonna have to rely on the youngins stepping up. If they bring their best performances for the next 3 games, the cup can be ours. It's asking a lot and chances are very slim. but i want to believe.
