MLS - May 11 - Toronto (Away)

The Athletic reported that Cushing denied the allegation, again, on Monday. Also, video from the alleged punch was sent to MLS in March after the first game. Nothing was found.

One never knows, but as of now it sure seems as if Herdman is conveniently pushing "support" of his player to deflect - and digging a deeper hole.

Both head coaches were asked about it in press conferences today. Not much more information. Cushing did say that NYC has asked the league to investigate, but it's not clear to me whether he meant investigate the allegations from March or investigate what happened after the game. Most outlets are reporting that he meant March, but I think it was the post game from Saturday.

If it’s not true, and I don’t think it is true, it’s such an irresponsible accusation because something like that can also fck with a guy’s livelihood and reputation on a long term basis.

If it's true, Cushing should be fired.

If it's not true, Herdman should be fined and suspended -- and if it was a purposeful falsehood that he knew was false but still said it, he should be fired.

They memory holed it on the Apple Wrap-Up show Saturday night. Barely even got into the kerfuffle. I think if the league had their druthers, they'd make the whole thing disappear, but that's a brutal allegation. If I were Brad Sims, I'd be burning up the phone lines to the MLS office demanding they clear Nick's name.

This sort of thing gets loose in the age of social media and all kinds of reckless and false innuendos start getting thrown around. It can destroy someone's reputation.

If also like to see some self-reflection from fans speculating about racial remarks Saturday night with zero evidence. Saw a lot of comments asserting that It was all but certain because of the way Johnson reacted. And there’s nothing to it. It’s ridiculous how confident people can get in their own ignorance and stupidity.

Late to the thread, some other thoughts:
  • See some mentions of what should have been a second yellow on Rosted, which I agree with. But what about a second yellow in the first half on Longstaff? Dude picked up a yellow for the handball and then later in the first half committed a clear "tactical" foul in grabbing one of our players (Malachi I think), preventing him from running away. That was a textbook yellow that also wasn't given. I think we forget about this play though because Malachi scored shortly after the restart.
  • TFC literally had "NYCFC punched our teenager" on their bulletin board and then lost at home to a team that hasn't won on the road in a YEAR.
  • I'm also of the opinion that "bulletin board material" is a farce when it comes to professional sports. I just dont think that that stuff influences games at all except for extra physicality/confrontations

One thing that remains unclear to me is what set it all off. There seemed to be a few people around the refs. Some arguing, but nothing serious. And then Tanasijevic just sprints in that direction like a wild man. Johnson tries to intervene, and Tanny head butts him. Can't see anywhere what started the craziness.
