Barazza started their last game. If he starts against us, we'd better shoot early, often, and crash the box for rebounds. I don't care if the shots have to come from 22 yards out; if they are hard and on target, Barazza will not catch them, and he will give up rebounds.

It is embarrassing how light our roster is that we're doing this for games with only 2 squad players out and no international duty.

I like this, but since we're limited with how often we can do this short term contract thing with him, it seems a waste when both martinez and bakrar are available. how much time can the kid actually get?

Reid just dropped a hat-trick with the II's. Bakrar continues to struggle. My hope is that the intention with the call-up is to have Reid at least temporarily ahead of Bakrar on the depth chart to see what he can do. Ideally, Reid shows well enough to earn a first-team contract, and wasting his call-ups is not an issue.

We still need attacking depth. Bakrar and Martinez will need to rotate across the upcoming schedule congestion, and we are 1 injury away from having to suffer through Fernandez at striker.

thing is, if he's gonna take over bakrar's spot as martinez's backup, then that's pretty much nail in the coffin for bakrar's confidence. he's already struggling and to see a kid overtake him, he's done. the soonest we can sign reid to a first team contract is summer window, right? we still have a ways to go yet...

The benefit here is the flexibility. On the short term agreement, he can be on the roster for 4 days, which covers 2 games for us this week. He can appear in only 1 of them.

Can't we sign him (to a permanent deal) at any time from the II's?

no idea. my understanding is we can't make changes to our permanent roster outside of transfer windows, even if it's signing someone from the IIs. but i am not 100% on that.

We can add any players who are out of contract between windows, we just can't do transfers. For players on the IIs I think we are able to sign them at any time as the limitation of the number of short-term contracts says you can only do 4 short-term contracts, and then you have to give them a first-team contract.

read the short term contract announcement and this caught my eye... makes it seem like he's already got a first team contract?

Pre-announcing a roster add? Weird.

Yea. I took a look at the previous two short term contract announcements. The prior one also says Reid will be joining the first team in the 2026 season. Weird indeed. The first short term contract announcement does not mention it. Probably because he had just joined the IIs.
