MLS - September 17 - Columbus (YS)

jansen said he's ready to go in his press conf.

i think perea will prob sit to start and come on later. he's coming back from an injury after all.
Cool, missed that about Raul (busy today). I really liked how quickly he gelled with Martins. I really like how we're looking tonight, too.

A lot to say about that match…

Ref sucked. A lot.

Was pretty shocked to hear Wolff has 11 goals on the year. Did not seem like he’s having a year like that.

Ojeda and Fernandez shut me up good after calling them Dumb and Dumber in the chat. They played like their hair was on fire.

So much urgency tonight. A real joy to watch.

Shore is so good. I can’t wait for him to mature so we can watch him every game. Plays with so much poise for someone so young.

Hope Alonso is ok. Can’t have him going down at this point in the year.

Thought the supporters were great tonight, especially for a Wednesday.

A buzz saw in red hot CTL coming to town. Hope the boys are ready for it on such short rest.

WHAT A FUCKING WIN!

I have not gone that bananas after a goal in a LONG time.

We never gave up. This was a well played game between two quality teams. Once we settled in, we moved the ball well against a strong defending squad.

Fernández Mercau has been a quality pickup. The subs brought the energy that we needed.

Columbus had the ball late and slowed up. I looked at my buddy and said, "They're happy with a draw." We took the ball right off them and went for the Fernández goal.

Keep this up!

I’ll start with how I always do about the referees. Absolutely horrible performance. The penalty in the first half is criminal. And the VAR to not advise a review is even worse. And then in the second half to not call a penalty on the Columbus goalkeeper. If Martinez is not fouled, he gets to the ball first and it’s a goal. That might even be a red card, penalty since the goalkeeper didn’t make a play on the ball. It’s a stretch but it needs to be reviewed, not just checked.

Offensively, we took chances and the ones that worked, worked.

I haven’t felt a high at a home game like that in a very, very long time. Jumped out of my seat. The beauty of Julian to call off Reid and just take it one time. Immediately my mind went to Lampard’s added time winner against DC in 2016.

Remarkable that Pascal brought in a 17, 18 and 2 20-21 year olds as subs in this game.

Am I the only one getting some 2021 vibes from this team? Remember how long it looked like we would have a lousy seed or drop out of the playoffs and then wound up with the 4 seed?

I have been a fan of most of our coaches, but I think Pascal is the best we have ever had (except against last place teams).

Sorry, going to add a few more comments.

Ojeda and Fernández have struggled frequently, but they were on tonight.

When have we had two stoppage time goals in a game before?

Both Columbus goals came as the result of Martins making a lazy pass straight to a Crew player with no pressure on him. He has to do better.

Holy fucking fuck what a win

First 45 we were better. The ball was predominantly in their half, their third. Then the pen. I get why it's a pen but meh.

Then we score our first.

Then they score, weird bc we had the run of play for so long.

Then hannes with the second goal was so damn good, I have a video of me and my friends reacting to it in the highlights reel to the right of the supporter section.

And then the third goal.
As GratefulDawg said 8 have no celebrated so hard in a long time. A really long time.

This was the game we needed. Charlotte was out of our reach if we lost tonight. Miami was out of our hands. Columbus would have been 5 ahead w a game in hand for us and it would have been difficult.

Now because of Julian Fernandez's goal (of all people..?!?) we leap frog Columbus with a game in hand. We play Charlotte and if we beat them we have a chance to go above them. Miami is a wash regardless, but always the two important matches of these three were Columbus and Miami. And we got one of the wins.

What a performance. i love Seymour I know he didn't score but he's gonna be in Europe in the next two years.

Hannes wolf has been so good.

I then spent an hour with some friends at a post-game bar. Great win. On par with some of our other best all time home comebacks. Dc United 2018 or 17 idr. The 3-2 still beats this but this was up there as one of the best.

Anyway enough blabbermouth.

Hope to see people at next Wednesday bc I can prob make it.

Love ya all good night byebye

the PK against oneil was a terrible call. the attacker stuck their foot in even though oneil had clear position. Yes, there was contact but if that's all you need for a PK it's just wrong.

Martinez one was strange. Ref should have called a PK or given a yellow. The more I watch the replay the more I think Martinez looked for contact after knocking the ball a bit too far away. I'd have to watch it again, but from the replays they showed, that's what I was thinking.

Wolf stepped up to bag a brace today after being invisible for almost the entire first half. LOVE IT.

Ojeda is finding confidence and it's great to see. He skinned that one guy and provided the assist for the game winner. I hope he can continue an upward trajectory and be consistent about it.

Fernandez still has a way to go before I think he is worth the roster spot but his left foot can certainly work some magic sometimes. Congrats to him.

Good vibes tonight. If we keep this going through this really rough patch of the schedule, that's huge momentum into the playoffs and then I'll start having crazy wild thoughts about us lifting the cup again after being so incredibly confident that we would win nothing.

Just finished watching on delay. I was out of town and I am so upset that I missed this one at the stadium.

Pascal, you magnificent bastard!

I love the way we played this match. Pure energy and flair. Top to bottom. e
Ended up with four academy products on the field, and two players that most of us had written off as busts and have absolutely come alive in recent matches.

I don’t know who to single out. We finished the match with our three best players on the bench resting for Saturday and the young guys said “why not me?” and got it done.

Pascal you magnificent bastard.

OK, I’ll single out one. Justin was a monster.

But the entire team swarmed and just wore Columbus down. Marvelous.

BULLETPROOF MENTALITY!!!!!

This team has some serious fight, and this ability to make comebacks is going to serve us very well in the playoffs.
