Time changed from 10:30 PM to 8:00 PM due to Nashville's removal from the tournament.

If we lose this match, I think my confidence would drop down to 2015 levels. We've realized that the problem with Dome in early 2019 was the absence of a striker. In 2018 when Dome took over for Vieira we still had David Villa. In 2019, later than we would have wanted, we signed Heber and things would moving in a positive direction again.

We're not going to have any significant roster moves this season. With or without the virus and stoppage of play, the front office is not going to cut Medina and sign a real DP. So the roster is set and it's all the pieces that Dome had that led up to top of the East. So the problem has to be the coaching/system.

I realize that too. But I don't want to wait until 2022 to be competitive again for titles.

this is just me talking......but it felt like last year was supposed to be the year, after the playoff loss it really felt like that was it for the majority of these players. i know roster wise it looks like we are only a piece or two away but i think its more closer to restructuring again and try and build for another push in two years.

I don’t think we’re skilled enough to play this system. Could be that we’re rusty but you’d think we would of figure it out by game 3 before the break. Too many giveaways and poor passing in the final third. They’re being asked to play through the lines and it’s not happening. Heber barely touched the ball.

this is why nico needs to start....just basing on the youtube video but he can pass ball thru lines etc. of course the movement also must be there, but i do think he can help in that regard.

In 2019, it comes together, and we sign Maxi to 2-year extension during the summer, guaranteeing we have no new DPs in 2020 or 2021, because we figure we're setting the table for a 3 year run with a coach and roster in perfect sync.

Then Domé and Claudio both quit, and the whole waiting for Gio and Arteta plan turned fiasco, and here we are. If Maxi gets old and/or if the team doesn't grok Ronnie's system soon, we're at best a pretty good non-contending team until 2022 at least.

Someone, please explain to me again that it's good to be a team that ambitious coaches view as a stepping stone. And I'm completely over the obnoxious and sempiternal "you must have patience, remember Patrick and Domé" chorus. These guys come here, spend at least half a season breaking everything, then inevitably quit without winning one damn thing shortly after they put everything back together. How about someone with more sense than ego shows up, takes a club that is doing well and wins something before trying to put his own stamp on it.

all that is true, but they all were "in house" coaches ( kreis technically was not but he was sent over to man city to "study" the CFG way) and Deila is not part of that. that being said Deila ain't leaving unless hes fired. thats because no one in europe wants him not even in his home country after his failure with valerenga.

IMO ambitious foreign coaches i think will view the league as a "stepping stone" or a way to "Get back" to winning ways before leaving to europe or elsewhere. the coaches who seem to do well within MLS are those that have been involved for years or even former players. Tata seems to have been the exception.

this is why i was not against the idea of trying to get someone within an existing coaching staff in MLS to lead. Someone like Gonzo Pineda who has been assistant for years at seattle so he knows what it takes to win in MLS

The game is just way to slow right now. We’re kicking out to the Fb’s and they’re sending shit crosses in or passing back but nothing is getting to our forwards or when they do get the ball they’re against 2-3 defenders since our buildup was so slow and there’s no movement around them. If we can’t figure it out for Orlando and come out with a win it’ll be a long season. Orlando looked atrocious.

The other emergent factor (given that it won't be roster moves) will be the team getting to grips with his ideas.

As you mentioned, Dome had Villa but we still struggled after the initial flurry of wins as he attempted to impose his style. I'm not super optimistic - I think his ceiling is probably stylistically Vieira-ish but possibly less effective, and I highly doubt we will get the tactical sophistication of Dome's NYCFC - but Dome / Pep etc. are quoted as having said that it takes 1.5 years to get a team to understand one's ideas.

Having said that I don't get the sense that Ronny's trying to inculcate the team with a sweepingly novel philosophy. Still, we can expect some improvement.

Our issues are completely self inflicted. Dome quit because Claudio was trying to get Gio. NYCFC lets Claudio leave, and Gio goes to China because his bestie isn't here anymore. Dome should still be the manager.
