Imagine being called up consistently for Peru, then moving to Europe thinking you can cement your place even further, only to basically never play and just never get called up ever again.
Come back home baby. We miss you Alex Callens.

this cautionary tale should be included in the orientation packet for new signees. Let them think twice about heading off to greener pastures at the first opportunity

Imagine working all your life to be great at soccer and getting an opportunity to play in one of the top leagues in the world and passing on it? No player is passing on a chance to see if they can compete at an even higher level.

Callens was consistently one of the best CBs in MLS. When he left he had nothing left to prove here, he tried to push himself to the next level and he found his ceiling, there is no shame in that. Using the power of hindsight to have a snarky take on a club legend that tried to go to the next level and failed is not a great take IMO.

It's not even clear he performed poorly when he got to play at Girona. He was injured a bunch last year, and couldn't force his way back into the lineup now that he's come back this year. It happens.

And Herrera gets another one today against Celta Vigo - the game winner in stoppage time.

De La Torre scored very late, but it was waived off for a foul on the goalkeeper (tough call). Minutes later, Herrera sealed it.
