Hey, at least everyone's favorite chelski plastic fangirl will start buying tix again.

fuck right off with that

are betting odds REALLY reliable? i know there are odds for anything over in the UK but how often is it right? games are one thing but stuff like new hires or where players end up?

Haven't looked for any empirical reviews of how manager hiring odds have done but they're the best predictor we've got. Especially in EPL betting, where there's so much money sloshing around, there's a serious financial incentive to evaluate all the public (and maybe private) information out there and get it right.

On prop bets such as this one, I find the odds are generally geared far more toward driving action than based on any sort of predictive quality.

They only get real when someone knows something. The trick is figuring out when that is.

ETA:
I think it's a UK football thing. Seems like all the punters like to put down a few quid on stupid shit like this. The culture of gambling among British footy fans, best I can tell from my limited perspective, resembles buying lottery tickets far more than the culture of American sports gambling.

Who could replace him without drastically changing the way we play?
Off the cuff, maybe go after someone like Garry Monk? I don't know. I think I shouldn't have said "right now" when what I really meant was more "he's not irreplaceable".

Who are some of the best PL U-level managers? Liverpool lost one of their top ones to some Scandinavian side a couple months back. Probably some other decent ones available in that pool, either in CFG or elsewhere. Of course, they won't have the cachet of PV.

ETA: Or we just get Tuchel. That's realistic, right?

Or, let me drop the sarcasm in favor of rampant and tenuous messageboard speculation: CFG decides Tuchel is the bees tits, so we get him on a 2 year deal while he waits for Pep to resign.

Regardless of when it happens I worry that replacing him with a lesser known coach will hurt recruiting. Lots was made after the Atlanta game about the two franchises being the model for how to spend and build but it can't be discounted that Atalanta having Tata and us having PV and Villa play a big part in attracting talented young players. When Villa and PV are both gone if they are not replaced with other famous names will players like Medina, Ring, Mata etc. still be as willing to come?

a valid concern I had decided not to think about this until next year at the earliest......but if this happens then it may be alot sooner

Yeah assistant and youth managers in the CFG ranks would probably be leading candidates. Vieira out, Arteta in?

Arteta in
I could maybe back that. Although, I don't particularly like the idea of him going from literally zero experience making in-game decisions to taking over a squad primed to win trophies.

It's taken this long for PV to get to a place where he arguably hits .500 on that stuff. And he was at least managing the top youth squad. Mikky doesn't even do that, does he?

No, I'm pretty sure he went straight from Arsenal to being one of Pep's assistants two years ago. Not sure exactly what his role is on the staff.

Arteta would be interesting, ideally he could help with a continuation of our style. As a player he wasn't nearly the larger than life personality that PV was, much quieter, would be a change for the team and it would be interesting to see how well he could navigate the media. No idea what his role with MCFC is, on TV he seems to often be next to and interacting with Pep on a regular basis when the broadcast cuts to the bench.

I think it's a lot more likely that the Arsenal board will want a "celebrity" top-Euro manager like Luis Enrique (currently available, will require bidding war with Chelsea) than an up-and-comer like PV, regardless of his Legendary Player status.

Zidane will probably be available, too, if RM fail to win the CL. I don't think he'd be a good choice, but he's higher profile than PV both as a legendary player and a manager.

Arsenal wants to see themselves as a big player in competition with Man City, Chelsea and United with the potential to go at least as deep as the semis in the CL. As such, I think they're way more likely to go for a quote-unquote "proven" manager than PV.

I predicted 3 and done from the outset. Fuck, I hope that I was wrong. And I certainly hope that it's not 2.75 and done. As others have said, if it's offered, he needs to jump on the next plane (and I would be in full support through the tears). Though I think that he's at least one more job away from having the experience to take a gig like this, and my guess is that the Board will ultimately come out that way.

He did in a recent CL match when Pep got the boot.

[I’ll show myself out before the blue mob reacts]

If there is a coach to replace Viera it should be Luis Enrique he would be a perfect fit for NYCFC , his team played a similar style to what NYCFC plays now and he would be able to bring in big names.

Pay him whatever he wants coaches salaries don't count against the cap!!!

The shitty part abut losing Vieira is that even if we get a good replacement (Arteta, Enrique) it's gonna take time for them to get well acquainted with MLS. Salary cap, roster regulations, the travel...it's back to square one with whoever we bring in. God help us if they want to replace the players Vieira brought in.
