True, but there's also the chance that the coach can take a few months off of coaching and wait for the start of next preseason of the team. It's highly selfish from the MLS side of things, of course.
I don't think that's realistic. Patrick didn't know Nice was interested until a few weeks before he left. Why would he stop coaching before knowing Europe is interested? I don't think it's selfish. He left for a far bigger job in one of the top 5 leagues in the world. He would have been insane to turn that job down. We always knew he would be a short-term hire, and I think he should get a lot of credit for the way things turned around -- and have stayed turned around -- during and after his tenure. Patrick laid the foundation for how good we've been the last five seasons.
