NYCFC in the Media Thread - 2018

Ben Sweat was just on a barstool podcast (Sam’s Army) talking about the recent season, his USMNT call up, and more.

One thing that stuck out to me was how he mentioned coming from college, you become a nobody regardless of how good you were, and how that transition is tough for some...

For those of you with an Athletic subscription, they posted an analysis of how Atlanta neutralized Maxi in the first leg.

He also went off on everyone whining about the YS pitch. About time.
Many of the comments on the above post lean on the cliché about our small pitch. I really really hope that when we build our SSS the pitch is the minimum allowable size just to keep trolling the rest of MLS.

It's small for sure but the Thing is that the fifa minimum is 70 (I think) and ours allegedly is 68 so it's even less then regulation. This is based off everyone believing what vermes said when he first came in and said he measured it and said it was 68.

In the post-match, Dome talked about how the plan to free Maxi was to have Mata come inside and have Maxi go to the left wing. He seemed to indicate that one or both of them (assuming Mata) lost the script.

It worked out better in the second half, although perhaps only because Mata moved to the inverted left back position. All those touches on the left looked reasonably threatening, although we probably needed someone more threatening than Alex Ring or Yangel in the center where Maxi usually is. Maybe Medina / ITS / Taty. I'm also curious why it wasn't also in the plan to do it on ITS's wing. Half of the reason we weren't able to capitalize on Maxi getting the ball on the left wing was that he had to turn it around to get on his right foot, so he'd presumably have an easier time executing from the right wing.

There is a question about whether Martino will already be game planning around those kinds of transitions, but I could see us being very dangerous in those situations if we can get it right for Sunday.

OURS IS NOT 68 YARDS WIDE,

as has been proven in these forums.

My god the amount of whining by other fans on MLS about the “illegal” field is ridiculous. Blame FIFA, the field is within the guidelines. It’s the camera angle that makes it seem so small.

What’s crazy is the camera angle is so easily fixable. Just set up a camera in the 300 section for Match days (it’s empty anyway to run the cables). But no one seems to want to be bothered.

I saw someone upload a world feed of our game vs atlanta last year in youtube and the angle they kept using was up by the nosebleeds and facing towards the bleachers....to me the field looked wide enough and looked better than the shitty one we get now. I guess they dont use that is because its too far away and people can't distinguish the players.
