NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

My concern with Frank staying isn't with the product on the field - it's spacing out integration of new DPs.

We saw last year that these guys needed time to gel (and a better manager). I don't want to enter 2018 with three guys retiring and us finding three summer signings to add to a thin squad.

Yes, integration is a key component of the equation, especially if a new DP is a different position than Frank thus requiring shifting a current player around & them needing to become familiar with their new role.
Also Frank was injured for a substantial part of 2015 and again for a big chunk of 2016. It's just not a good risk to re-sign a 38-year old player with that record.
Now if Frank wanted to do NYCFC & the Fan base a Solid and re-sign as a $200K player, I'd be very excited about that.

Well, yeah. Might even redeem him in the eyes of the most critical, heartless bastards. I should know. Good luck to us with that, though.

From what I've been made to understand, I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility that Frank would resign as a non-DP player.

50/50 chance he's here and not a DP next season.

I'm obviously not a member of the Frank fan club, but if we make CCL, it would be nice to have the team that qualified it compete in it. And if he came back as a non-DP (mix $) to help the team, I might have to apply for fan club membership at that point.

You're going to join the fan club once Lamps hits that 10th goal.... you have no choice, because when we clink our beers together in celebration of his 10th, you've gotta do it with a smile on your face.

I'd rather have Mix on this team for 5 years than Frank for another one or two. How long can he play for and be as productive for us scoring 10+ goals a season going from February-Decemeber (preseason to playoffs)?

and the myth of Mix continues.

What has Mix done in his career to cement the idea that he is this secret talent that needs to play? He was an unknown when Klinsi called him into camp. We've seen flashes of brilliance - but you could say the same about Freddy Adu (who was also on a World Cup roster remember).

my image of Mix was forever cemented during the World Cup when he shot that 5 feet-away from goal one-on-one ball directly into the goal keeper: a player who can run, who can time it well, has the right mindset, but can't finish. my perception of Mix...and he has done nothing since then to enhance that and might have digressed

Does anyone know the rules about contract length and start/end dates? We know we can sign someone midseason through the end of a season. Can we sign someone with a contract end date of June 30?

Call this the Reverse DP4 contract. Sign a player to DP money with a contract end date that is midseason. Then they can extend for non-DP money through season end or retire as the team brings in a new summer DP. Wouldn't this make sense for the league?

This would
  1. Allow players to see through a CCL campaign that they started.
  2. Increase continuity knowing that most significant DP signings are going to happen in summer.
  3. Enable the clubs to get more star power on the field for longer (ala LAG).
Is this totally impossible?

I am on board but quite sure the socialist lawyers working for Gerber have thought through and preempted the path

What WC did Adu make the roster?

he didn't

Half of the problem is actually persuading players that that's a deal they want to take though. OK, sure, you can argue it's a payday but most players wouldn't be so desperate for the money that they'd put that 6 months on higher wages above the damage it might do to their careers. You're not going to find many players willing to renew on those terms so you've got to find a player who is going to help the team and who only wants to come for 3-4 months. Bear in mind that MLS isn't exactly known for letting players just leave on a free so they could end up stuck getting optioned by clubs they don't want to play for for months afterwards and find it incredibly hard to leave the league to go somewhere they actually want to play again.

Also, as far as I'm aware, most leagues in the world have a 12-month minimum contract length (not including loan deals, of course).

Didn't want to reply to Bizzaro Tom posts again, but this just kind of chaps my ass. He's here to the end of the year. He's our 4th best central midfielder, easily. He gets no time. That's shocking.

Adu partied harder than he trained starting at about 17 (actual age likely 25), ate his way out of first division. No one has ever questioned Mix's dedication.

Further, he was consistently one of our 2-3 best players every time he started. You are spouting revisionist history, here. He has been solid or better every time he's gotten a chance. Has he earned his salary? No. But your posts are characterizing the situation as something it's not.

Hell, Tom is at least just pointing out stats that are based in fact. Your campaign is almost as pervasive, but it's a varying concoction of supposition and conjecture and fiction.

It's like people who blame Green for Donovan not being on the world cup. That binary choice only exists in their head.

You are right. He didn't and my memory, for once, served me wrong. I am quite sure saw a clip during a Men in Blazers clip in which they were lamenting Mix's golden opportunity missed but I can't recall what match that was. But don't get me wrong, I am net positive on Mix but I believe he lacks the final finish to kill. It's sad in this league we have to fuss about 750k salary. Hope one day 750k is our reserve squad pay. Otherwise what's the incentive to be a professional player in the US?
