agreed with everyone here. what i am hoping for is a scenario in which, after hitting walls again and again, he finally wakes up and matures, which is bit too late for him in EPL but he can still bring tremendous value to us, maybe in a few years (but Pirlo will be gone by then, maybe). But then again, in a few years, we may get CR, Messi etc...so it will be moot pointThe only way you sign Balo is with a behavior clause in his contract.
Will CFG enact the Twilight in New York Iniaitive where we can have Yaya Toure when his contract ends in 2017, so hopefully he arrives for summer transfer or by January 2018. Also consider Sergio Aguero in 5-6 years (currently 27) and Vincent Kompany in 3-4 years (currently 29).
It seems that 32-34 is the new age for stars to come to MLS. However by then, thing may be completely different.
Toure will be joining us once Lampard's contract is up. Unfortunately, we won't have him until the summer of 2017, but Toure is coming here.

That's going to be a mess, the guy struggles with motivation in the PL and with his own national team. Can you imagine how little effort he would give in MLS? We better start sending him birthday cakes every year from here on out just to have a chance at him caring tiny bit should he arrive.
Yes essentially each club could buy a transfer fee and not count it towards cap. but only one per year. At least in the old CBA.Isn't there some rule that waves one or two transfer fees per year up to a certain amount? I can't recall where I read it but I thought someone mentioned that paying the rumored 1 million buy out clause to keep Calle next season would use up our transfer fee waver. The standard disclaimer that MLS rules are super confusing and I could be way off with the comment apply.
WThere's only one New York club. I think it's delusional thinking on Jersey fans part to think they'd have chance. I heard one of theirs on the radio yesterday trying to make a case about the big Portuguese community in Jersey giving them a leg up. Guess what ? Massachusetts has a huge Portuguese community too and there's no way he's going there either ! The fact that they average 18 K at home and need us to sell out their building is all you should need to know. They might temporarily be better than us on the field ala the Devils to Rangers for the late 90's into the 2000's but the drawing power marks them as a second rate market long term.
but Yaya does not have the star power, not proportional to Pirlo's anyway. Don't see him sell as many tickets as Pirlo did. Hack, Pirlo brought me to this club and now I am a new fan (well I was thinking of it when I first heard of Villa but Pirlo pushed me over the line). we need someone both good and with star power (important to continue to build fan base to make a case for a bigger proprietary stadium...etc.)Toure will be joining us once Lampard's contract is up. Unfortunately, we won't have him until the summer of 2017, but Toure is coming here.
I've seen Ronaldo's name pop up a number if times now and don't know what's fueling the speculation of an MLS move in several years, but there's a guy who I'd love to see in NYC who may be available sooner: Falcao.
As a big fan of El Tigre, I wouldn't want to see him fail this year (even if it is at Chelsea), but if he doesn't play well, I'd love to see him here. He'd fit in perfectly with such a big Colombian population, especially if the stadium ends up in Queens. There may be plenty of teams willing to take a chance on him at 30 next year, but does it hurt to wonder what it would take to get him here in 1 or 2 years?
What fueled the speculation is the fact he bought a condo for $18.5M here in Trump International. Falcao is a good idea. But, ibrahimovic has expressed interest in MLS once his contract is up. I would rather have him than Falcao, given our limited room. thoughts?
Giroud is not special. He is good but not special. Given the limited room and near retirement age, we need someone one level higher. Like Muller at 31 yr old rather than Giroud at 30 yr old. Just saying....Giroud is 28. In about 3 years maybe he'd be interested in coming to MLS.
We have been talking established big European names... Hope our scouts are working hard in South America and get some young players here to play and develop them into super stars who will eventually be on Brazil national team or even better, become a U.S. Citizen. Speaking of which, I would rather invest top dollars in bringing the European trainers to come develop local and South American talent. Eventually that can become important revenue source with big transfer fees from exporting them to Europe
