NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

This sounds a bit like a non-compete clause type of situation. It was my impression that those are being challenged more successfully lately, since it inhibits where someone can work even when they are out of contract with the original party. Is that correct? Are non-compete clauses common in the rest of the world?

I've no idea about practice in the rest of the world. In most of the US these clauses are enforceable if reasonably limited in time and scope. So contracting with a regional sales rep that he cannot break his contract to work for a competitor in the same industry in the same region for 1-3 years after he leaves is the kind of thing that is OK. The Bravo thing I made up would probably be OK or not depending on the union CBA.

Yeah I agree, not a fan of how he's handled whatever "news" he thinks he has. If as he said he's only 99% sure and unwilling to share until he's 100% sure, why say anything at all.
Yep. I'm trying to figure out what exactly could be the 1% he's so worried about - 99% are odds that anybody would take if given the opportunity to take a risk.

One more point on the Bravo option that nobody has raised. How does Boca have the right to sell an option for 2017 if his contract ends now?
Our information is that when NYC didn't exercise, then the club could get him on a free transfer, because he is out of contract with Boca. If he is under contract with Boca for 2017, we can't get him on a free. But if he is not under contract with Boca, how do they have the right to sell a purchase option to NYC?

Honda to MLS is a yearly rumor that always hits a dead end. He is not a total position of need, but I like him as a player enough to say yes. Definite upgrade to anything we have in an attacking/creating role. We have had our build up play sputter between Pirlo and Villa too much last year. He would be a nice spoke on that wheel. He'd elevate the younger players too. You'd have to really consider him as a DP if available and you'd have to sign him. Kind of like drafting by either position of need or BPA. Depends on what kind of club management sees us as in 2017.

Midfield is our only real position of need. We lost two starters.

Doesn't matter if we only have one guy that can score and a sloppy defense. I see your point though...That being said, IMO Iraola leaving is a bigger hole than Lampard. I've watched Honda play a lot. He's a forward playing player. Not that Bravo is that good, but maybe he's gone too.

We need a legit defensive minded box to box mid, that can play forward when needed and shut a game down when needed. We need a Vidal, Matuidi, Nainggolan, Bender, Khedira...etc. That's #1. If you tell me we can't get anyone in that mold, then a play for Honda is acceptable.

But it's all a moot point unless we knew who was available and who would come here. Honda may be the best player available for us...but he doesn't leapfrog any kick ass DM in my eyes just because.

For the record, I like Honda and think he'd be an excellent edition.

Edited to add: If he doesn't come to MLS this season, I see him being a LAFC DP next year.
