NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

I literally just reminded everyone of our Brosky signing. And you guys still think we might be doing some next level strategizing that turns up waterfall returns.

Holy shit. Now I understand how MLMs continually pop up.

I think the suggestion was that CFG may have some inside knowledge on Mohammed Abu because he came through the MCFC system. Seems like reasonably solid logic to me. But instead let's draw some obscure connection to Brovsky a player we signed likely due to his past history playing for Kreis and then happened to loan to the same team in Norway as proven logic that insider info on Abu couldn't possibly be the case.

Exactly.

Some Ghanaian "journalist", which means he's possibly as credible as any of us, or he's really connected. If you've ever tried to research football in Africa, youll find it impossible to tell and it varies from situation to situation.

He's at least apparently had his pic taken with Patty.

ETA: he does apparently live here, and he's written (credibly) about our club in the past (for Ghanaian sites)

The interesting part of that photo is the only time Vieria is in that room (it's the field MVP club) would be postgame during the family meet and greet (not for fans). So he must know a player to get in. I've seen Christie Brinkley and Mix's girlfriend and other family members and players who weren't in the 18 walk over there postgame. Based on the Ghana connection, it was probably Poku last year. So he has the connections. So I'd put this as more legitimate than Crooks.

That's some Sherlock level deduction shit right there. Good job

Looks like he can play CM and CDM which would be great if we are signing Khedira in the summer. He could be are starting CDM and then move forwards into more of a Lampard role once Khedira is signed.

Imagine this skill set playing behind/next to Pirlo?

I hardly ever watch YouTube highlights, but this was worth it. Obviously, there were lots of clips of long shots and other tricks (and really bad house music). But, what really got me salivating was seeing him run the pivot and help get the ball forward. If the video is a reasonable representation (big qualifier, I know), he is exactly what we need - a guy who can hold the back line, build into the attack and go forward when the opportunity presents itself. Plus, he is only 21.

The question is whether he would be a TAM guy or a DP, and would we be okay with it if he were the later? There is interest in him from elsewhere in MLS and in Europe, so he might not be that cheap. Worth remembering that at 21, he would be a younger DP, and therefore only count $200K against the salary cap instead of $457K. (some advice - don't Google "Young DP" - at least not from your work computer)

Well, if the title is accurate and it was from only one season, and he turns out of pressure only as many times as shown there for us, he'll have done more in one season to calm our midfield than anyone not named Pirlo in the history of the club.

ETA: Also, that last bit is good advice that would seem to go without saying. Did you have similar issues when you traveled to Cleveland and needed to de-wrinkle your pants?

You could bring him in as a DP and then buy him down with sweet sweet TAM once Khedira is signed in the summer. It would have to be a lot of TAM though as you mentioned he would only count $200k against the cap for being a young DP. But you could do that and then by the summer have a starting midfield of Pirlo-Khedira-Ofori.

Harrison - Villa - Lewis
Ofori - Khedira - Pirlo
Back 4
Johnson

That could be the lineup by end of the year. Not too shabby.

Just wanted to point out that I've noticed several people throw around the use someone as a DP for first half of the season and then bring in a DP in the summer.

I would absolutely love this to happen, but I'm not certain if MLS rules will allow this to happen because I don't it has ever happened before. Remember that we had a chance to do this with Mix prior to Pirlo coming on board and we did not do it. Now that could have been because our FO just wasn't smart enough and didn't figure that out. But just consider that the ability to have someone as a DP first-half and then switching them over may not be a done deal.

Edit: See Seven post below. Apparently LAG is doing this with Van Damme, so this is an option.

The video is great. If I had one minor critique he seems to often create space for himself by poking the ball about 6' into space and then chasing it down. I think MLS defenders are going to close down that space quickly and it will be even worse on our small field.

Edit: In NYCFC terms I'd dub this move the year 1 Shelton, thankfully he's shifting away from the poke and chase as his go to since ended in a turn over more often than not.

Well we still don't know if Mix was ever a late addition (after rule invented) TAM player. If so, then they couldn't without re-working his contract. And we know that's not an option with Mix.

That's what LA is currently doing with Van Damme

http://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2017/01/19/report-la-galaxy-set-re-sign-jelle-van-damme-new-contract

"The report said Van Damme will begin this season as a Designated Player, but will be bought down using TAM during the summer, in order to free up space for the Galaxy to potentially add another DP at midseason."
