NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

Why haven't we been linked to any EDS players this season? That's 2 years in a row. And since PV took over. Is that done now? No more EDS loans?

When has Vieira ever said who he's interested in. I've never seen a quote about potential players with names from him. And I think it's football rules you can't comment on acquisitions of players still under contract. He's not going to say no comment so it's just say no.

Maybe they want a winter DP, but if Khedira isn't interest in coming to MLS now, he may be in the winter and he may be a target then. I'm still on the Khedira hype train.

PV said they are working to bring in a DP now.

EDIT: By now, I mean they are working to bring in a DP that joins us this winter.

Ofori must be a DP.

God no. I think that's a waste of a DP spot.

Why would it be a waste? We're talking about a young player who hasn't even hit his prime yet and (is he old enough to drink?) who had an amazing season in Sweden. He would be a young DP signing, which gives us added financial flexibility to improve other areas of the team. He also fills a major need for this team.

As preseason begins, the less likely we are to bring in a elite player over from Europe to begin the season. Why not have the option to structure his contract so we can be back in the "looking for a DP" hunt in the summer window or even the next winter window?By then, we'll probably have a better idea of our needs and where we need to strengthen, and give our FO more time to scout and bring in the RIGHT DP and not rush just to make a star signing.

Signing him as a Young DP, depending on his total contract, could provide multiples types of roster flexibility. Maybe he is a Young DP at a reduced Cap Hit, saving us TAM dollars. Maybe he becomes a TAM player in the second half of the season if a DP emerges (Pirlo came together quickly remember). Not the worst thing in the world to start with.

I'm in favor of big name, game changing DP players who I want to buy their jersey.

The exact quote:

On Khedira: “There is nothing I can say because he’s not one of the players we are targeting – he’s playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world and he doesn’t have any intention of coming to MLS at this time.”

This seems like an odd proclamation to make. Too bad. I have been paying close attention to Khedira's play last few games. The guys bossing the midfield. Also, opponents usually are playing from behind and tend to press. He handles it really well. Think that trait would be great for MLS.

Game changing DPs don't always have to be big names. Wasn't Matarrita a game changer? Jack Harrison?

I think the FO has finally figured out how to build a MLS team roster. Not just us, but the rest of the league as well with all the additions the league has seen this offseason.

Remember, in order for a deal to happen, both sides of the table has to agree to all the terms laid out in the contract as well as having the blessing of the players current club to speak to the player. It's not easy to bring in elite players, especially the ones that are in their prime.

Shall I shift my hopes back to Honda?

F: McNamara, Villa, Harrison
M: Honda, Pirlo, Ofori
D: Matarrita, Chanot, Brillant, Allen
K: Johnson

Doesn't look as complete. Also, shift Chanot to RB and put Callens in the middle.

Without commenting on Ofori specifically, I really want to see the team be in the habit of having 1-2 up and coming DPs at a time. I'm resigned to the fact that there will always be at least 1 aging famous DP for marketing, but our resources and mothership mean we have a great opportunity to get people on the front of their careers rather than the back.
