NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

You know who would be really helpful for this team right now? Kwadwo Poku

Not sure what position he'd play in our system, he doesn't play D, or have the stamina to go box to box and he's not a winger. Oh yeah and despite his cult hero NYCFC status he's not good. Based on his stats in a lower league against easier competition it doesn't look like any of this has changed:

Current 2017 Miami FC Poku Stats
20 games played
19 starts
1607 min played

Still doesn't play D:
0 Blocks
0.6 tackles per 90 min
0.28 interceptions per 90 min
Wins 38% of duels

Not amazing on offense either:
50% of shots on target
0.1 assists per 90 min
0.28 goals per 90 min

The GAM we got for Poku was the best possible outcome. I agree with LeeNYCFC it's not a great solution but if we are looking back to pervious NYCFC players that could have helped at this moment of depleted depth Jacobson is a much better fit than Poku. Not saying I'd be happy with Jacobson in the middle but he's better than Mikey at the DM role.

Michael Bradley has 1 MLS assist this season. 1. Can't go off of stats. I've watched some of their matches and Poku has been very good for them this year. Probably top 3 player from the matches I've seen.

Not relitigating the trade. I still agree with the move. But we are short a CM this season with the disappearance of McNamara, Awuah's inability to break through, Sands' injuries and Lopez's general talent. A guy like Poku at the end of a match would be very helpful right now.

Wasn't it reported that we had around $200k? I don't think this trialist would be paid much more than the minimum or so, but we definitely had at least a little bit of room to work with.
The contract salary would be prorated for the year. A minimum salary figure is only like $30k of cap space at this juncture.

In agree goals and assists can be misleading but I think the D stats are very telling that he still can't be bothered to try on D. That said if you're looking at him as a late game offensive sub when you need a goal I can get behind that, it's the only role he consistently excelled in.

ETA: For context 5'3" Maxi averages 2.4 tackles per 90, lazy Poku and his 0.6 tackles per 90 can stay in Miami and collect his big checks.

I agree as to the role he could serve here. That's what I was advocating for

He overlapped with Jack at ManU for 2 years (2009-2010). I wonder if they knew each other at the academy (4year age difference) and if that relationship played a role in organizing the trial?
Would have been 12-13 and 16-17. That's a vast chasm at that age. Unless they had some sort of mentoring program and were paired up it seems unlikely they did much together.

Agreed, but isn't Man U known for having a very open academy/senior program?

I don't even know, but even if it's open I just don't see kids with that age gap hanging out together unless pushed to do so. Sure, they might have trained together, but I think the 12-14s hang together, then 15-16, and 17+

I think that's something that Sir Alex instituted. Everyone from the teenagers up through Ryan Giggs ate and hung out together in the same places on "campus."

If nothing else, he would be murderous in the Okoli sub role.

There are two points here:
1) Poku would be a huge boost to the team, pretty much anytime
2) The trade deal was a no-brainer - although dealing TPFKAU and getting back $200k less would have been better (but that deal would likely never present itself).

Nothing to be excited about, but I expect him to make the team. We are desperately thin in the back.
Ugh. Going to say something I hate, but it's still true.

Doesn't look like a footballer.

ETA: Don't get me wrong, I'm all for signing him immediately. Apparently, he also has played DM in the past. As a matter of fact, having never seen this guy play one second, I'd be for starting him in the midfield vs. RBNJ tonight instead of Lopez or TPFKAU.

He looks like Daley Blind's younger brother, Haley Blind.
