That is ironclad, irrefutable logic, that.Funny! Are you talking about Medina or Mata as yours?
We’re coming off of multiple shutouts in a row, and Johnson leads the league with 9 shutouts, so our Left Back sure isn’t the problem.

He is not of the quality that we all want, but for his salary he is amazing. And if he can beat out the more expensive Mata, whom the FO sunk a lot of money, then that’s not Sweat’s problem but rather an indication that Mata sucks. You have to judge based on what they’re expected to do and he is over performing.
Tinny was gassed so he went off. Ibeagha can’t play as the outside defender in a 3CB formation, so somebody had to shift over, and evidently the coaches thought Sweat was more serviceable on the right than Mata would be.I don't think it's that Sweat is beating out Matarrita, I think the coaching staff (both coaching staffs) haven't wanted both Tinnerholm and Matarrita as the fullbacks together. I think it's Tinnerholm who's beating out Matarrita, even though he plays a different position.
Take tonight, for example. He took Tinnerholm off when he brought on Lewis, then slid Mata to fullback. I don't think Vieira or Dome have wanted Mata and Tinnerholm as the 2 fullbacks.
I think you’re reading too much into the Tinny beating out Mata theory.
And if I remember correctly, Mata looked horrible that match. Them not being paired again would be more indicative to Mata’s poor play in that match than anything else. The span after that, he then got injured on WC duty, and we went on a run of wins and a bunch of shutouts with the Sweat/Tinny pairing.Maybe. They've started together on the backline once since April -- and that was the May 25 game at Houston.
That’s a complete mischaracterization of what has gone on. You know that.have used Sweat over Mata
Might wanna edit this.claiming Ben Sweat would have saved the IS World Cup hopes.
Might wanna edit this.
Either give facts as to how it’s a mischaracterization, or STFU.That’s a complete mischaracterization of what has gone on. You know that.
It’s completely disingenuous to pretend otherwise.
Why are you so hung up defending this guy? I don’t get it at all. He’s objectively our biggest weak spot, and it’s not close. Even our front office said we need to sign a left back. And they don’t say shit about shit. But that is literally how obvious it is that he isn’t good enough. “Might as well say it, hell, everyone can see.”
Except Ulrich, who will go to his grave next to Bob Abramowitz Oficial (1 F because it’s in Spanish) claiming Ben Sweat would have saved the IS World Cup hopes.
I can take everything you say as fact, and it changes nothing about my position that he’s not good enough to start at lb for us.Either give facts as to how it’s a mischaracterization, or STFU.
A player that is always injured and has no desire to play defense because he’s never seen a chance to bomb forward that he didn’t take, is not a better option at defender. Full stop. Mata gets victimized every time he plays defense but nobody wants to admit it because it’s easier to jump on the bandwagon and blame Sweat, a guy that’s punching above his pay grade and has been consistently played by two coaches. It was Mata’s ole move that allowed Afful to dance by him for the winning goal last year in Columbus - and that was a far more costly error than anything Sweat has ever made.
Mata was dog shit today with heavy touches and a keen ability to kill offensive thrusts. Even as a defender, Sweat was putting in more dangerous crosses. And as I’ve stated before, the goals weren’t on Sweat, they’re on the midfielders that didn’t mark the guys scoring. It’s laughable to be mad at Sweat for giving up a throw in - that wasn’t the reason for the goal, it was because pretty boy Medina gave up on the play and let Shipp take an uncontested shot. Sheesh.....
You want to know why I defend the guy, because he busts his ass for a minimum salary, all the while putting in solid shifts for a top 2 team, and he holds his own on the offensive and defensive side. Is he a world beater, hell no, but he’s playing because he’s beaten out the presumptive LB with the big salary that the FO expected to be the starter. Good for him, he earned it. The fact that the club has even discussed bringing in another LB is more damning to Mata than Sweat because it shows they have no faith in Mata to play that position since they haven’t handed it back to him; they may not even have faith in him to play wing if since they’re bringing in Valentin to play wing.
Lastly, I call it like I see it. I’ve slammed Sweat when he’s had bad games, just like I slam anybody else on the team - Villa, Maxi, and Chanot included, and now Medina. So I don’t play favorites. What I do expect is that the guys making more money better be producing more to justify their places, and hence I’ve been extremely critical of Medina.
I literally lol'ed at this.next to Bob Abramowitz Oficial (1 F because it’s in Spanish) claiming Ben Sweat would have saved the US World Cup hopes.
Glad someone else found it funny.I literally lol'ed at this.

You claimed I mischaracterized the situation (that’s what the STFU was in reference to, but you even misplayed that), you asked pointed questions regarding my defense of Sweat - which were answered in earnest, and then you hide behind the thread name because what I wrote was accurate and factual???I can take everything you say as fact, and it changes nothing about my position that he’s not good enough to start at lb for us.
This is players wanted, not players we have. I want a replacement. When we get one, I’ll “STFU” about him.
Yeah, maybe it was Lewis’ man (good graphic) -but on the video replay yesterday, from the goal side, it was Medina who picked Shipp up in the box (the team typically hands players off as they go into different zones) and then stopped tracking letting Shipp get his shot off. And if Lewis was supposed to track all the way in, then he fcked up.If you're talking about the 3rd goal in every soccer system I've played based on where his run starts Lewis was the one that should have covered Shipp's run. But I'm sure he was standing flatfooted ball watching because he assignment is to be the outlet man certainly not because he plays no defense.

Right. Medina showed no urgency in closing him down, which was pretty much the story for the team last night. No urgency in anything.Yeah, maybe it was Lewis’ man (good graphic) -but on the video replay yesterday, from the goal side, it was Medina who picked Shipp up in the box (the team typically hands players off as they go into different zones) and then stopped tracking letting Shipp get his shot off. Either way, Sweat wasn’t responsible for that goal.
