NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

I just accidentally caught the David Lee interview from this week’s YES Network playoffs preview. Confirmed two DPs for next season. Do we have confirmation on who the second is? Is it Maxi or is it Medina coming off the DP books
Medina deal was structured to come down I think to TAM

Would aron johannsson be worth a look?

At the right price, yes. He had a horrible spell of injuries 2015 to 2019, but seems healthy now and has always been productive in leagues that are roughly comparable to MLS. His potential was such that a team in a league clearly superior, the Bundesliga, bought him, and if I am not mistaken he was doing well for Werder Bremen before his serious injuries started. So he´s proven in terms of skill and is probably a good professional. His physical durability is a hard question but you can´t have a striker that is both proven and durable without spending DP money, so as a TAM signing I would say yes.

I basically agree. When healthy, he was a guy that tore up the Eriedivisie and earned his way into the Bundesliga. If he can stay healthy, he would be one of the best players in MLS. With his history, however, you can't rely on him to stay healthy. Thus, I think he is a TAM signing, but one I would be glad to see.

I may be thinking of someone else, but haven't there been concerns with him regarding motivation to play / playing hard while in La Liga and before when he was in EPL?

If I am remembering that correctly (which very well may not be the case), then I find it a bit difficult to think he'd come to MLS and give it his all.

He seems like a headcase. Wouldn't want him anywhere near this team.

He's just kind of a dick. The kind of behavior that is only tolerable when you are scoring goals. Imagine a less quotable Zlatan who doesn't score nearly as much.

You want me to imagine someone who would be the best player on the team?
An oft-injured, declining skills, yellow-card machine that hasn't scored more than 5 league goals in a season since '16-'17, who was terminated mid-contract and could take a 60% pay cut and still be the highest-paid player in the league?

What I meant was...a less quotable Zlatan who doesn't score nearly as much would almost certainly have been our best player last season. The guy was pure insanity for LAG. I don't know if Diego Costa is the answer (I doubt it), but I would snap your hand off for a 'less-good Zlatan' at this point.

So what positions do we need to fill now?

Starting LB
Starting Front Three
Backup RB

I'd argue Chanot could use a replacement. Chanot is great as a defender, but I think as a STARTING defender he needs rotation, and Ibeagha, while great, is not what I'd consider starting-caliber on rotation.
