NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

Yeah based on Lee's comments to end the season he sounded like he was happy with the guys we have. They do need to replace Sands with a backup if the plan is to start one of the current guys or a starter to play his spot. There is no excuse not to get that done quickly as they have known about the Sands departure plans for months at this point.
The plan was probably Haak, although he did so well on the back line, Jansen and Lee may have to rethink that. Another alternative is to leave him where he is and run the double pivot with Keaton and Perea and count on Justin and Andres to work together and not leave a gap.

Do it right and they could be utterly beastly.

There is a clause in the contract that allows him to leave this season for a mutually agreed-upon transfer fee (between Atletico and Griezmann).
Isn't that always the case anyway?

I'm not doubting that there is a clause that says that - as a lawyer, I frequently see clauses where parties to a contract can mutually agree to do something else. But, that's true even if you don't spell it out.

Can all contracts between a player and a team be voided by mutual consent, Gator? (I'm assuming there are some other contexts where it's not so easy.)

I have no idea, I'm not an expert on contracts, and I honestly find soccer contracts particularly confusing as they often have mechanisms in them that are different than what is typical in other major American sports. I just saw that it was reported that a clause triggers at the end of this season that allows him to leave. It could very well be clickbait to make something standard sound like an actual thing. As KevinJRogers pointed out there is also a €25 million release clause, so maybe this other clause allows him to depart for a lower amount after this season?

Edit: This is article I saw, the quote provides very minimal info on the clause:

"Unlike many players whose contracts expire in June 2025, Griezmann’s Atlético Madrid contract runs until 2026. However, a clause allows for an early departure if both parties agree on a transfer fee."

Many include an explicit provision which states that the contract can be terminated by mutual agreement (in some cases even setting forth a specific fee). In other (all) cases there is a more general provision which allows the parties to modify any term or condition of the contract if both sides agree in writing. As GG suggests, either way there is an out if both agree.

Generally speaking, all contracts of any kind can be terminated or changed by mutual consent. Basically, if two parties have the power to create a contract, they also have an equal power to change it. A contract may state how a contract can be amended (i.e. only in writing, etc.) but the default position is always that the parties can agree to change the deal.

A buyout provision basically means that if a third-party offers at or above a certain compensation, the Club has to accept it, and it will be then up to the player and the new club to agree terms.

lol I guess I was manifesting, but unless we can use Talles’ spot, he is not coming here. And I doubt our front office would even look at him as an option. But boy howdy wouldn’t he fix a lot of the problems on our front line.

Feels wrong to even mention it but possibly LA is looking a bit less attractive right now.

Darwin Nunez. Leaving this summer and exploring options. No chance options include playing in a baseball stadium in MLS at age 25 but if he’s open to unorthodox moves like Saudi as reported, this is the type of crazy moves we should at least be considering. I bet his agent will at least get some calls from Becks and LA.

Let's say he was willing to come play in a baseball stadium in MLS at age 25. Would we want him? He's like the liverpool bakrar.
But hey, perhaps going to a lesser quality league is what he needs to get his confidence back.

Personally, if we did sign him, i wouldn't be mad. but I don't think i'd be excited about it.

Guess we won't have to worry though since Lee is probably not lookin at him anyway.

Even with his yips he’s in a different stratosphere than Bakrar. He would score 20+ in an MLS season and would be the best player we have signed since DV (and maybe Tati by some dumb luck). We are talking about a 50 million dollar player as compared to our usual forwards at a level of Gabe Segal and Julian Fernandez. You are right though that this a just a silly hypothetical lol.

David Lee is that annoying friend that refuses to admit a hit song by a popular band is good because he insists the only good music is from obscure indie bands he discovered on SoundCloud.

Never get in a car driven by that person. It’s a music A.D.D riddled experience with a song change every 17 secs

You're telling me, I had to ride with David the other day, and he was trying to force me to listen to this album by some band from Serbia called the Entitled Prodogies. He kept going on and on about how big they are going to be someday. He spent an absurd amount of money just to download the album. I knew from the tracklist that I wasn't interested:

  1. Took all your money and threw it away
  2. Not gonna run, not gonna press, I won't even play
  3. I love NY Pizza
  4. Midseason Holiday
  5. Sulking at the midfield circle
  6. Gettin Jiggly With It
  7. Too talented to try
  8. Ode to my Argentinian bench buddies
  9. Send me back to Europe
  10. Belgium Bound

Must have been the old album that was an ode to a Brazilian crew for this new one to drop about the Argentinians

Chiesa? Only 27, and the Liverpool dream is over. MLS is a welcoming place for Italian soccer stars.

i wouldn't mind this at all. not as a DP though. if we can bring him in on high TAM, that'd be a great signing. he used to be an absolute menace before his injury and he's in need of solid playing time and confidence building. if he comes here with the right attitude, he could regain his form and get back on the national team. not a bad deal.
