NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

Brooks. Tall, decent distribution (but not as good as Alvarado) and quicker than Alvarado.

But I think Alvarado would be the one to move here.
Hold up. You rate Alvarado's passing ahead of JB? That's certainly not the typical assessment from most watchers. I rate Brooks's passing as among the elite of the elite CBs in the world. Alvarado has elite speed, but he's a project.

In terms of what is reasonable conjecture, Alvarado is clearly the more MLS-appropriate player. Brooks's trajectory is as a starter on a team competing for a spot in the UCL field, not as a starter on a team competing on an AL field.

Ethan white looking like a strong possibility. Anyone have contacts with Philly fans that could give us a scouting report? roxfontaine ? NYCFCfan ?

he's 24 and he's 6'0" I like the direction the team is going for for defenders.

TL;DR, the guy has terrible distribution skills and doesn't have anywhere close to the defensive ability necessary to make up for it. Backup at best. Quite a disappointing target, IMO. Why waste allocation money on a backup.

Klinsi thinks Alvarado has the distribution skills to play as a CDM. I think Brooks is tremendous with the ball at this feet - sometimes - but he also makes terrible decisions. Passing ability isn't just about the ability to make great passes like Pirlo - it's about making the right pass too.

Description from a Philly fan on Reddit:

"White was a 4th string CB for us last year. He's decent in tackles and recovery runs, but his great down fall is his inability to play out of the back.

I would be really surprised if this trade was for anything more than allocation money and/or TAM.

If I had to guess a player I would say Jacobson. Former Union player, position of need, and would fit in OK with Nogueira and Barnetta.

And if you guys are going to be starting Pirlo and Lampard, an upgrade over Jacobson would go a long way."

Just my two cents.

Brooks also dribbles like he's a short midfielder. His ball skills are ridiculous! Now if he could only hold his mark for 90 minutes.....

With the news of new assistant coaches, I figured I would look at who was recently with the US U23s:

Luis Gil
Will Packwood
AJ Cochran
Omar Salgado

All of them have a story and now have a connection to NYCFC. Salgado has already been a NYCFC player. Cochran and Gil are out of contracts in MLS, Packwood has been a nomad since the summer.

Definitely need a CB even with the addition of Ethan White.

Definitely need a LW because I can't see Macnamara succeeding there (and I like Macnamara)

I would be cool using TAM to get two proven starters at these positions.

Yesterday, I thought McNamara, all CBs and Wingert at LB brought nothing.

If I could only upgrade 2 of CB, LB and LW then I go with CB and LW. Allen is more than serviceable at LB

Honestly I don't think our offense was that bad in the first half, yes they need to finish but if you kept them on for the second half I am sure the score line could have been 3-1 or 4-1 NYC. I'm still gonna advocate the Work horse in Mullins right now, him and Villa up front with Poku and Lampard behind them would have any defense shaking in their boots. So IMO we just gotta sign some CBs and soon cause they need to mesh before the beginning of the season.

With TAM, I'm sensing more and more than it will all be spent on Martin DeMechelis. Only question is whether he joins this winter or in the Summer.

Followed by YaYa Toure joining as a DP next summer.

Yes - the CB position is key to winning MLS. Not a flashy position but the most critical to get right.
