NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

I think Mix is gone after this year for a number of reasons. I think it's mutual. he's not happy, he hates Kreis, he's playing out of position. Depsite all of that, he's not playing well, he's making 750k a year and they will want roster flexibility.
While Mix isn't happy with losing I'm not so sure he's gone after this year. He hates Kreis? NYCFC want him for the long term.

I'm hoping next year we get true wide players and we can move Mix towards the center.

sorry, not trying to crush this post, but thought it would be important to put dollars to the dead weight this year. These are folks who have played limited minutes but count against the cap. Guys most of us would probably not expect or want here next year:

Alvarez 63k
Ballouchy 83k
Brovsky 129k
Calle 225k
Grabavoy 215k
Iraola 200k
Jacobson 150k
Meara 73k
Nemec 333k
Taylor 84k
Velasquez 60k
Kwame 82k
Williams 125k
Wingert 215k

Is there anyone on this list that you would be really upset to not be here next year?

That's over 2 Million of our cap on wasted players. And some people want Hernandez (185k) and Mena (200k) off the roster too.

I hope we're in for some big shake ups this off season.
I wouldn't be upset if Ballouchy wasn't here next year, but I think him on the roster at 83k is value.

A player like Fabian Johnson would light up MLS.

His wage at BMG is approximately 1.1 mill euros a year so we can't afford him as things stand but if MLS adds a fourth DP or lamps leaves, he should absolutely be under consideration. We need a left back, but he can also play LM. He would immediately be the best player on our roster.

He has struggled to find his form but I think it's way to premature to give up on Iraola at this point, especially at $200K. He has had some missteps but seeing that be came mid season and we have only seen him a handful of times what has he done to warrant being on the cut list?

I also think you are wildly under estimating how difficult it is to spend money in MLS. Assuming we keep Iraola the only other players on that list that free up an international spot are Calle and Alverez. We have the Nemec spot as well. So you have to replace 13 players and you only have 3 international spots. Where are you getting 10 decent American players from even if you have the cash? There is no free agency in MLS, and we don't have any trade assets. Most american players overseas would command DP money and the rest are in MLS or lower leagues.

Look at it this way, NYCFC had the whole cap to spend last year and look who we got. Do you think they just passed on a ton of better players and said nah we'll just wait till the expansion draft and take everyone's cast offs?

I didn't realize Fabian Johnson was only making about 1.3 Million USD a year. That's a lot less than I figured.

Fine, keep Iraola. I mean it.

But I would rather see cheap, unproven guys here making Connor Brandt money (or him when he's healthy) than the crap Kreis rolls out there.

I hope Brandt and Shelton get a shot next year. especially if we're again not in a spot to compete. I'd rather lose with Brandt, Dunn, Shelton, Poku and get them reps than watch Ned Grabavoy pass the ball back to the keeper.

Will Packwood got called up for Olympic qualifying. He's training with NE Revs but has trained with them before and NJRB and someone else but nobody signed him. From what I heard he's dreadfully slow now after all the injuries. If that's something that our training staff think can be fixed with time away from the injury he might be worth a signing. He's still young (22) and at worse he's depth and a big body. We don't have a lot of size in the back and him being 6'3 if he can regain his fitness could be a great signing down the road.

I can't imagine him being worse than kwame.

If he is too slow for a center back- wouldn't mind training him up to be a cdm if he has the technical skills. Doesn't have to be a great passer just someone who can bully it up in midfield, win possession and pass it off to someone who is a better passer.

He is naturally a mid, I believe, so I'm sure he would love that.

If we really wanted to bring it all together, we'd go buy Geoff Cameron and promise him the #6 role. That way, he gets his preferred position and has 2 full years to show Klinsmann that he is the man for the role in 2018. Having Geoff and Mix together would help both grow their nat'l team roles, and give us an actual physical presence to shield the backline. Oh, and one that is pretty damn good with his feet and passes.

oh to dream. Geoff is so underrated.

Doesn't Houston still hold his right?
Since Houston and MLS sold him to Stoke and it's been a few years I don't believe Houston has his rights any more. The real problem is he seems to be a stalwart for Stoke. Good luck prying him away from them at this point.

It may take years, but I would love to see our DP strategy be to supplement our nucleus with DP players, not use DPs to comprise our nucleus. How great would it be to have a team of high-performing, hard-working younger players like Mix, Shelton, Poku, John, Brandt, etc, someone like the aforementioned Cameron, a few cheaper int'l players if the CFG scouting system can ultimately bear fruit, etc. And then be able to use the DPs to afford top quality at the appropriate positions (if the need remains a top CB, then use it on a Terry/Kompany/Chiellini/Miranda type player available at that time) and have the liberty rather than the necessity to add a Gerrard like LA did. That's a tricky formula for an expansion team with a variety of other forces at play, but it should be our ultimate goal.

As much as I'd love this to be the case I would find it very difficult to imagine MLS and CFG doing that.

I can imagine the conversation going like this: "sure we have two good strikers and need a center back but Balotelli is available. Strikers sell shirts and get us on TV not center backs."

Though Sergio Ramos would be a great option in 2 years…
