NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

I believe the Benfica move was to play for Benfica B. Not that this kid isn't talented, but it's not as if he was going to be in Sunday's XI every week playing against Porto and the like.

Probably not immediately, yes, but they were willing to spend a decent amount on him for a second division player and I doubt they would spend that much of their long term plan was strictly B team. That said, I don't know the exact number so I won't throw out the figure that comes to my mind so let me surf big soccer to see what I can find.

He was the 2nd leading scorer in the 2nd div. Benfica wanted him to replace the B striker who had moved to another 1st div team. So it's not like he was far from being there. He did all of that at the same club that shat on Tony Taylor.

He made $3 million last year, so the NE offer would be just above DP level - basically one of the new TAM players. He's 34-years old. So, do you trade with NE to sign him for 2 years and pay him, say, close to $1 million. He could be the defensive stopper we need next to Pirlo those years, but given our abundance of talented center-mids, I'd rather put Mix or someone else there and use the money on a center back.

I'm a big fan of Kobe (LA Lakers) but I'm not a big fan of paying Vino Kobe, Kobe superstar money. Jermaine Jones has to serve a six game suspension and I can imagine he's going to be missing more games due to suspensions and injuries. He's a hothead and I don't see him as a good team player. He's not worth his current salary or anything close to it. There are much better, cheaper options.

I think he's a great team player. But I don't think he would be a great signing now, given where we are. He is going to wander, that's just who he is. He won't hang back all the time, which is why NER and the US don't play him as a pure 6. As for him being a "hothead", I think he would bring some fire that we sorely need.

Still, overall, a "no" for me right now. Maybe I'd change my mind late in the transfer window, but let's definitely shop a while first.

Three things.

1 jones doesn't want the deal at TAM money, he wants dp money. I'm going to disregard the entire discussion of what he is actually worth for the moment.

2 we have enough players over 30 on our squad. I would like 2 skilled South American centerbacks who are like 25-28 and have a good turn of speed on them. We are way to freaking slow to be adding jones.

3 holy shit we do not need more midfielders.

On Jones' suspension, I assume any contract numbers being discussed for him would be before deducting for his 6-game suspension, which I further assume is without pay. So, if you agree to pay him $680K, or $20K per game, next season, you will really be paying him $560K after he misses the first 6 games. To put it another way, none of the discount in New England's offer is due to missing those games.

Like Mendoza and Mena?

Depends. We could counter with, yes, we don't have a training facility but how do you feel about spending 3-4 weeks every preseason at the brand new MCFC facility (assuming that's going to be an every year thing). If I was a young player I'm taking that experience over a "nice" MLS training facility.
3-4 weeks?

Wow, where do I sign?

This leaves me with 3 thoughts.
  1. Even Grabavoy has a highlight video. So beware of such.
  2. You can't teach size.
  3. This guy seems to have a great nose for where to place himself.
But is there a better highlight video than Nick Offerman's Lagavulin adventures ?!?!?

this is the condensed version

1. Nick Offerman has a 45 minute version.
2. You can't teach sophistication and taste.
3. This guy seems to have a great nose for where to place himself.

Ezequiel Lavezzi is available on a free this summer. All we have is our TAM and that won't be enough to pay his wages.

That being said, could you pay him $1.2 Million for 1/2 year (he joins in the summer) and then give him Lampard's DP spot over the winter? Gentleman's agreement?

buy his property at Market Value + Premium that is equal to his salary shortage...so many ways to structure deals, all depends on if MLS discovers such deals and how hard they want to crack down on such deals. after what they did for LA, they've got to do it for us too.

Shane O'Neill is back on the market after him and his club mutually terminated his contract. Might be able to get him for fairly cheap and is a solid CB option/ can only play CDM

I read Seattle or LAG for Shane O'Neill

Also rumor that Jermaine Jones is considering LA Galaxy. Both Omar G and Juninho have been sold for a combined $2.25 Million. If my math is right, LA could have up to $1.35 Million in Allocation Money from that move. Can not be combined with TAM.

I read on Twitter that LAG was not given any allocation money for Omar as his transfer fee was less than his salary. Not sure on Juninho
