NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

How about this for a question. If you had to protect 11 players on our current roster (exclude Mix and Poku & assume Lamps leaves) who would those 11 be?

Pirlo, Villa, Jack, Mikey, RJ, Tmac, Mata (if he's still with us), Iraola, Bravo, Brilliant, Martinez. That's 11 and I'd leave Brilliant and Martinez exposed if I had to. The expansion draft won't hurt us, unless we decide to protect a player like Khiry just because we drafted him at the expense of another. Or Saunders... We protect Saunders and this forum crashes, I guarantee.

It's more likely Mata is with us next year than Bravo , who's here on loan.

So I'd take out Bravo for Shelton, and probably Martinez for Mullins because Mulljns probably has more trade value.

But we have a whole transfer window yet and it looks like we are setting ourselves up for some acquisitions, so this will all change. If we bring in two this summer, I'd drop Lopez and Mullins/Martinez from the protection list. After that it gets pretty tough.

All this GAM we're getting from Poku and any other transfer/trade of players will need to be used in trades for international spots for 2017 and beyond...

Neven Subotic was free agent now. He is 27 y/o and a good defender. I think he is the answer for our defense

Isn't he also a us citizen? I vaguely recall him being a usmnt possibility a long time ago. Don't think you can get him for below dp $ but he would help tremendously.

I found a rumor that say NYCFC interested Orlando Berrio (Forwards), here I leave the player information.

Yes. He played with U.S. youth teams, but after he was left off the squad for the U-20 World Cup, he switched to Serbia. Important thing for us is that he wouldn't use up an international slot.

Would be a great pick. I am all in favor of using a DP slot for CB or GK. One for the front, one for the middle, one for the back.

Looks like Diskerud is back with the team.

Mendoza not seen though. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CmCzeMCXEAAmWjh.jpg
Well there have been to reports of any transfer deals involving Mix as of yet so they have to continue as if he is staying. It would make it less attractive for another MLS club to sign him if he wasnt even training with us as they will want him match fit.

Mendoza is a useful squad player but if he is unhappy there is not much point keeping him. We could try to get Brandon Barker on loan but MCFC will want him to be a starter.

Whatever happens with Mendoza though i think we need a winger who can score goals and take some of the pressure off Villa.

If this team were able to somehow find a gem of a dangerous striker to place up front with Villa and Harrison, with Lampard now playing dangerously, and Pirlo being Pirlo (and bonus offensive productivity from Mata out of the back, etc.), we could have the most dangerous attack in the league.

The interesting question is what type of top-quality striker would fit best with Villa (and Harrison)? Blazing wing, poaching finisher, or hold-up presence (or, of course, some combination of those)? What is the prototype for a striker to best compliment and supplement Villa?

Could just be his goodbye practice....

Found it strange that there was a tweet this weekend from him lounging outside watching soccer on tv. Looked like he was on vacation - Seems like PV gave him two weeks off to clear his head and decompress, either to come back to the team fresh and eager, or because another MLS team didn't want to transfer in damaged goods.

Villa wants to play central and PV seems inclined to honor that request so I'd say we rule out anyone that has to play centrally. Focusing on wings they have to have a decent defensive work rate as our wings play for stretches in more of a LM/RM role. Passing, positioning and finishing are the top three traits I'd like to see. We could trade some speed and dribbling skill if needed to get a player that excels in the other three areas. Let Villa and Harrison beat people off the dribble, give them a skilled high IQ partner that Villa will trust to help with link up and clean up and scraps.
