Any ex-Bayern player is a yes for me. Excellent vision and defensive work, albeit slow. Upgraded Andoni, essentially.
Meh, a bit old. Doesn't quite pass my "is he guaranteed to play out a three-year contract without aging issues" test. Schweisteiger, on the other hand, in the same role and is two years younger. Just makes the cut.
Interesting. Considering Bayern dumped Schweini to make a place for Xabi, I don't think the age is an issue here. I think Schweini is shot at 31 and Xabi is still a 90 minute guy at 33.

Disagree about the Basti thing. Bayern sold him to Man Utd because he wanted a new challenge having won everything at club level with Bayern. Also just retired from international duties, so he won't be worried about the extra travel and games, which will be less of a toll on his knees and ankle. Much better for him from a health standpoint.
Eh. You may be right. My understanding is Bayern thought he was done and didn't want to pay his salary. Van Gaal got got by Pep.

I don't understand. I think Kjbert point was that Van Gaal purchased Schweini from Pep. Not sure what the former coach at Bayern has to do with this.
To be honest, I don't watch much European soccer. I will defer on this.
A bigger question is whether we want to buy another deeper lying DP. I think the most common thought around here was to target a winger, striker, or attacking mid, until the Scheinsteiger v. Xabi discussion. We definitely need to bring in at least one more attacker assuming Lampard isn't re-signed.
I totally missed that.
Nacional wanted more than MLS was willing to pay. He's likely headed off to Argentina this summer.

I think we've found that you can create a deep lying player (we did that with Iraola) out of thin air. I'm sure CFG has a few players in mind for next year. A lot will depend on Lampard. I put a Lampard extension at 50/50 right now.
Ah damn, and his price tag has probably gone up with his strong performance in the Copa Libertadores. I was hoping our offer was rejected due to timing - we tried to take him in the middle of the knockout rounds.
Created Iraola out of thin thin air? They guy played first division soccer in Spain for years and while he's older now is still an incredibly skilled and knowledgeable player. I think you're vastly under estimating the skill set Iraola brings to the table that has allowed him to succeed in the role he's filling right now.

I'd rather they send us an EDS kid. Barker is Harrison on the opposite wing, and Thierry Ambrose is supposedly everything Vieira wants in a striker. Or since Gabigol signed with City, a certain young Nigerian striker comes here on 2 year loan.
We're not getting Nacho.
