NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

Seeing Schwini's injury history just looks like too much risk. If he had more upside, if we thought he could be the best player in the league in 12 months, maybe. But best case scenario he'd be a very solid DP. Worst case he misses more games than he plays. And that worst case looks fairly likely based on his recent (last 3 years) history.

Pass.

Agreed. At first I was all over it, but I thought he just had a recent knee issue. Didn't realize he's been injury prone his whole career. With that injury history, he's more like a 36 year old than a 32 year old.

This is as much a risk for Chicago as it is for Bastian. Bastian gets to come here on a guaranteed deal. The league is a step down and the team will be built around him. Much less pressure there than anywhere else he has played.

Interesting tidbit here from Vieira. Maybe Kompany isn't that much of a stretch after all.

"Vieira added: “I’m really looking forward to seeing some old faces – I haven’t had the chance to go back since I moved to New York but I’m still in touch with Vincent [Kompany] once or twice every week - we are really close friends still."

I would think after a full season, Viera would have a different vision on the team's need...but I think he still wants to go with his original vision of a 4-3-3 type of attacking offense and playing from the back. That's a tough thing to execute in this league with 3 older midfielders: Pirlo, Lampard, Iraola. With Lampard gone, it opens things up. Bravo and Mikey are decent back ups, but not starting material IMO. So there is a big need right there. A big talent box to box mid. An Arturo Vidal type that can score, defend, distribute and wreck havoc.

It all depends on if Viera wants to stay the course. If he does, they will still need a Pirlo type holding mid that can distribute. I'm ok with replacing him with a younger version, but it's not the end of the world if he stays, as long as we get that other mid position worked out.

That is an interesting tidbit. Does his chant come with?

Jorge Teixeira... remember that guy?

Apparently he wants out of Charlton now.

Do I want him? Not really, I don't think he'd be that much of an improvement over Brillant. Then again Charlton's worst loss this year was only 6-o so maybe he would be. Either way, came up and thought we'd all relish the schadenfreude.
Continuing down this path.

Charlton Athletic are a complete mess.

7 managers in 2 and a half years. Wonder if Teixiera is eyed again by NYCFC this offseason as a replacement for someone like Mena.

Vieira likes his French speakers. Kompany makes a lot of sense in that regard. Nasri does too. Ciman has proven that MLS doesn't matter if you wanna play with the national team still, so Kompany wouldn't have to worry about that, and Nasri has retired from the French team so that is irrelevant to him. Think Bony would make the move for the right price? I really don't care what position we use on our DP spot, I just want someone who will be performing at their highest or close to highest level, and not on the down slope of their career.

Chanot can move to the RB position. Defense would be set albeit without an overly overlapping RB.

I don't think Chanot gets the credit he deserves for his athleticism. He's a CB, but there was one game where we went with 1 in the back and he was the overlapping fullback. He did something that led to Shelton doing something that led to someone scoring a goal.

Have you ever considered a career as a play-by-play announcer?
