NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

Hmmmmmmm....

Studying formation. They play a 3-3-4

Just from clicking around, looks like they play very similar to how Vieira wants to. They dominate possession (58.9% in La Liga) with a three-man backline. Against Juventus last week, the RCB pushed up the sideline according to the heat maps, while the LM hung back, forming a 2-7-1 shape due to a super fluid attack.

I wonder if Vieira was more frustrated than he let on last year. His style is complex and he does not seem intent to dumb it down for MLS players (e.g. Poku, Mix, Mullins, etc.)

With an emphasis of system fit over talent (e.g. Lopez over Mix), I'm expecting a heavy roster shakeup this winter (another CB, RB, CM, CM, RW, ST) to the extent the roster rules allow.

What we're really missing is a midfield general. They need a guy with the pace and work rate of a smiley Lopez but the touch of Iraola.

Watching N'golo Kante boss a midfield makes me wonder how a player with those types of skills would transform this team. We struggle linking the back four to the front. We struggle covering for Pirlo.

I wonder if the Matarrita as CDM we saw in the blowout loss to Toronto was more than just we ran out of subs. He does fit the profile (good on the ball, relentless tracking back, pace to cover 70 yards).

From memory we did OK moving the ball from midfield to attack when Iraola was in there, but had troubles getting the ball from defense to midfield.

When we moved Iraola into the sweeper position in possession, we did a better job getting the ball from defense to midfield but were worse at getting the ball from midfield to attack.

So maybe we need both a ball playing 3rd CB plus the midfield general you speak of to connect defense, midfield and attack effectively. Maybe we just needed two Iraolas.

Curious to what extent we go into the offseason with slots to fill in a fixed system vs. molding the system around the players we actually get. Knowing Vieira maybe there are a collection of hybrid scenarios.

I think Iraola was fine offensively. I think he was only ok defensively. I think his positioning made up for his lack of pace. But not enough to make up for Pirlo.

If memes and tweets can get Donald Trump elected President, we can get Sami Khedira to sign for NYCFC.

We need photoshops, memes, etc. Get creative people and start posting. If someone can do him in a NYCFC jersey to start that would be appreciated.

Quality, youngish player from the Cosmos that would be worth signing. Had a stint with Wolfsburg and has 25 appearances for Venezuela.

My guess would be a salary of around $150k would be enough

If we're paying him a salary of 150k then the effective value is 20pk due to international slot purchase requirements. is he worth 200k to us? or can we pay him 100k? if we can pay him 100k will some other team find value at 125k, if so then we won't get him.

Why would we need an international spot to purchase when we already have a bunch open?

I've seen him play 3 times. I don't think he would be a star for us, but the type of player that could start or come off the bench and put in a good shift every time. Maybe $150K is too much. I have no idea what he was making with the Cosmos, but I was assuming they had to pay him pretty well to get him there.

I'd rather the team look in to getting that guy from Wilmington that scored for us vs Necaxa. I realize he's a fwd and this Kosmos player is a midfielder, but I'd bet he's cheaper and he's also an American so no int spot is needed. Plus, we need a backup front line guy that can bring high energy.

No idea either, but part of our deal could be that he'd actually get paid on time each week/ every other week.
