Why?
Well he is a US national team player, yes our defense is better than before, but he plays regularly in Pachuca. Just won concacaf champions league...and maybe we need more Americans in our team?
Why?
So our two current starting CBs are playing quite well, by most people's accounts. They are being paid 180k and 340k. Then we have another CB who would be a decent spot starter making 280k on the bench. We also currently have all 3 of our DP spots full.Well he is a US national team player, yes our defense is better than before, but he plays regularly in Pachuca. NO-Mar! Not today, not tomorrow, not ever.So our two current starting CBs are playing quite well, by most people's accounts. They are being paid 180k and 340k. Then we have another CB who would be a decent spot starter making 280k on the bench. We also currently have all 3 of our DP spots full.
Last time Omar Gonzalez was in MLS he was making $1.2m/year.
So, you want to break up our starting CB pair, which is arguably one of the top pairs in MLS, and then likely pay a transfer fee, and shell out over $1m/year in salary for a position that we really don't need?
On top of that, we would need to either spend a ton of GAM/TAM to get him under the cap, or get rid of one of our DP slots, just to use it on Omar Gonzalez......
Midas Mulligan knows. But he won't tell usDoes anyone know the max $$$ amount NYC would be willing to spend on a top DP? ..or a round-about figure?
I wouldn't be surprised to see $8mil for Pirlo's replacement, if it's the right guy, and as long as he's available on a free.

I'd take a second Maxi over Pirlo any day of the week. But I know what you mean. I think we would all love a big(ger), more recognizable name in/around their prime. No reason to think we can't get that done. Again, though, winning makes most everyone look like a solid signing....and what if they spend Maxi money again?

I would too. Maxi has already had a larger impact than Pirlo. I'm ok with another player on that salary. What was the most Robbie Keane ever made?
"We are watching two different games"Are you out of your mind?
Overall impact on club, fans, exposure, etc., yes, Pirlo has made a bigger impact in an all-encompassing sense. This year, on the field, there's no question Maxi has had a bigger influence on this team. Are you out of your mind?
This year, I would argue yes. But the way the original statement was phrased with "already had a larger impact than Pirlo" seems to imply historical comparisons as well. That is quite a stretch.Overall impact on club, fans, exposure, etc., yes, Pirlo has made a bigger impact in an all-encompassing sense. I could be reading too much into that though.
It is much more likely that the next DP will be for Maxi money rather than Pirlo money....and what if they spend Maxi money again?
Not sure. He's a guy I'd love to keep forever and have as a future captain, but he's good enough to go to a top-5 league team and flourish. He will have a lot of say in it.How would everyone feel if Jack Harrison is the next DP?
