NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

Well he is a US national team player, yes our defense is better than before, but he plays regularly in Pachuca. Just won concacaf champions league...and maybe we need more Americans in our team?
So our two current starting CBs are playing quite well, by most people's accounts. They are being paid 180k and 340k. Then we have another CB who would be a decent spot starter making 280k on the bench. We also currently have all 3 of our DP spots full.

Last time Omar Gonzalez was in MLS he was making $1.2m/year.

So, you want to break up our starting CB pair, which is arguably one of the top pairs in MLS, and then likely pay a transfer fee, and shell out over $1m/year in salary for a position that we really don't need?

On top of that, we would need to either spend a ton of GAM/TAM to get him under the cap, or get rid of one of our DP slots, just to use it on Omar Gonzalez......

NO-Mar! Not today, not tomorrow, not ever.

That would spending a lot of money for someone whose documented and regularly exhibited weakness are exactly the worst you could have for our general philosophy.

I wouldn't be surprised to see $8mil for Pirlo's replacement, if it's the right guy, and as long as he's available on a free.

I was also referring to transfer fees, but I guess you answered that as well. They are unwilling to go that route? The only reason I ask is because getting a young/prime star could potentially go a long way toward gaining some traction in the NYC arena department.

I'd take a second Maxi over Pirlo any day of the week. But I know what you mean. I think we would all love a big(ger), more recognizable name in/around their prime. No reason to think we can't get that done. Again, though, winning makes most everyone look like a solid signing.

I would too. Maxi has already had a larger impact than Pirlo. I'm ok with another player on that salary. What was the most Robbie Keane ever made ?

Overall impact on club, fans, exposure, etc., yes, Pirlo has made a bigger impact in an all-encompassing sense. This year, on the field, there's no question Maxi has had a bigger influence on this team.
This year, I would argue yes. But the way the original statement was phrased with "already had a larger impact than Pirlo" seems to imply historical comparisons as well. That is quite a stretch.

I could be reading too much into that though.

That's how I read it.

How would everyone feel if Jack Harrison is the next DP?
Not sure. He's a guy I'd love to keep forever and have as a future captain, but he's good enough to go to a top-5 league team and flourish. He will have a lot of say in it.

However, he's young enough to be a Youth DP, thus freeing up more $ for another player(s), so the contract could be structured to take advantage of it.
