I can think of a ton of City players that were poor buys too. Strange comment.
So their academy doesn't produce starters and their signings don't pan out. They must be doing something right...

And id argue their best signings are players that every other team wanted too, but City just handed them more money. Can't think of any "gems" they discovered.
Edit- Kompany maybe? But he's before CFG anyway I think.
Perhaps a little harsh. The majority of players in the academy joined when MCFC were either just another mid-table side, or at least before they won their first league title - back when their standards were a lot lower. You can't take a relegation-battling side, give it the money to compete at the top and then expect its academy to produce world class stars as quickly as they buy them in for the first team. There's always going to be a 5-10 year lag between the first team being dragged up to the top level and the academy reaching that same pinnacle.

The reason MCFC don't find 'hidden gems' is they have too much pressure to take risks on unproven players.
Sorry, back on topic. Mix will be a great signing, super skillful and will only improve playing with Villa and eventually Lampard (and maybe De Rossi). USMNT star of the future.
