Nycfc V Toronto Motm And Postgame

I know the stadium limits the # of drums so it seems like the choice of drummers is critical. Any idea how the TR selects the drummers? Is there any experience or qualifications considered? Having been to games at other stadiums our drums sound considerably less professional than the drums in other supporters sections. At other stadiums the drums are clear, crisp and hardly ever stop. I am not in a SG so I dont know the situation. It's entirely possible that the people playing the drums are the only ones who stepped up to do it. I appreciate the effort, I just think there is some room for improvement.

The drums are brought and played by Los Templados. They just happen to be awful drummers though they are likable people. The drums aren't tuned well and they aren't played well. So that combined with the poor acoustics in the stadium makes for a jumbled mess.

But hey, they're very enthusiastic!

See? I'm being positive about things. But in actuality I do appreciate the effort, and the spirit.

We played a high line last night, tactically the opposite of what we did against TO the first game. It worked to get the fullbacks involved int he attack, but it left the CBs all alone. I don't really blame KWS 100% for the performance, he really shouldn't have been asked to go up against the best striker in the league while playing a high line. Giovinco was given a TON of space based on how we were playing, and our midfield is not good enough to limit the chances he would get.

I think the majority of the blame being directed at KWS is for the PK which was completely unnecessary. At this level such a blatant lack of judgement is totally unacceptable. To me the more egregious lack of defending was Wingert on the last goal. He had about 10 yards to see Giovinco coming, took a stab at the ball and let him fly by. He did a few nice things at lb but its time for the Wingert at CB experiment to come to an end. I'm sure he and Kreis wanted it to work to extend his career a bit now that he has lost his pace, but its just not happening.

Kwame gave Gio about 15 yards of space on this goal... perfectly understandable.

He only played CB because there literally was NO ONE on the bench that could play the position and we had no choice but to move him there in order to get Angelino into the game.
Wingert made A LOT of mistakes at LB as well. He was unable to hold his line and played people onside on multiple occasions.

Finally getting a chance to post a few thoughts about the match. I agree with everyone's points about KWS/Wingert being awful (disgraceful really), but I think the 4 allowed goals were a result of numerous circumstances that Kreis should have seen and planned for: Hernandez being unavailable meant that either KWS or Wingert had to play at CB which is obvious trouble against any MLS team but particularly against Giovinco. So, instead of trying to cover up that glaring deficiency Kreis has the defense play a high line and also has Iraola/Angelino push up while not tying Jacobson to the CBs. Unbelievable! Kreis talks about Poku being naive -- he needs to look in the fucking mirror. As someone else pointed out earlier this week, anytime Jacobson roams forward our defense gets roasted. All of this happened as it has many times this season and we all saw it happening -- except for Kreis who "needs to take a hard look" at why Giovinco killed our back line. He's a fucking joke.

Wingert definitely got completely caught out on the third goal when the ball just went right over his head. Facey got caught in between trying to cover and KWS managed to forget to track the best player in the league.

Yes KWS was awful yesterday and that PK...just (sigh), but look at the 3rd goal. Look at where the rest of the back line is and look at where Wingert is playing Findlay onside, look at him trying to run back. Look at Facey sprinting to catch Findlay, how do you expect KWS catch up to Gio if the defense is playing a high line and Gio was just casually walking back from an offside position.

TFCs 4th goal, yes Iraola fucks up with the TO, but he can't foul as he already has a yellow, and he figures he has help from his CB and the latter will slow Gio down enough for the both of them to get the ball back. Well that didn't quite exactly happen did it? Instead Wingert is as non influential on this play as Grabavoy is during games. It's like Gio ran past a cone.

Thanks for coming by and posting this.honest and fair.

Yeah no problem.

You forgot Red Bull!!! I kid!! I kid!!!

Nice report. I think a vast majority of both fan bases just want to have some fun banter and not get too personal. Cosmos fans on the other hand......... o_Oo_O

This post is a nice start. Welcome!

Some of the apparent stuff that goes on is laughable -- the scarf stealing, the subway lectures, the standoffs in front of bars. I get why fans are passionate about their teams but to get to a point where you are willing to fight over a bunch of high-paid athletes is ridiculous. Could you imagine if you fought and then went into work and they asked you what happened and you said you got into a fight with fans of a rival sports team? To me that is grounds for a firing based on stupidity alone.

I was in 226 and I could only hear "hey baby" twice during the match. I thought "oh good they're really toning it down" I guess I didn't hear all of them.

The Toronto supporters were very good. I was only two sections away, but they were loud and united. At one point I believe it was either after Toronto's second or third goal, they started chanting "we own this house" or "this is our house " or something like that. The 225 and 226 responded with a "USA "chant. I was looking over at the Toronto supporters and they just smiled and started chanting USA along with us. During the last 15 or 20 minutes, I got tired of them facing our sections so I stood up and started yelling the 'Bronx/battery' chant with some passion. I sang it three times but no one else in either section said a word. They all kind of looked at me like i was some drunk even though i didnt have any (i was with my kids). Toronto stopped their chant and listened to me though. Meh, kind of spoiled the atmosphere for me in the section. Everyone cheered and stood for exciting moments, but lacked the 'umph' and passion. I already asked my kids for the next game if they would be cool with being in the supporters section and they were excited for it.
See I thought the Toronto supporters sucked. Weren't they sitting down until Giovinco scored to make the game 2-2?

I've heard this a few times. I sit almost opposite from the supporters section but I hear it differently because I know all of the chants so if I hear any piece of it, it catches me. Having a capo or two go to the other side is a great idea though. I'll talk to them and suggest it for you.

I think the issue is a couple of layers deep, but the biggest one for me is that the rhythm section is always rushing the tempo. I think it's their job to keep the RIGHT tempo, not the one the crowd is plugging along to. They rush every single chant and that certainly contributes to the poor sound.
If you are going to have drums in any supporter's section they have to be perfectly in sync with each other and with the members singing, otherwise it doesn't work. The slightest error will derail the whole thing completely.

Being a part of the Red Bulls supporters section Saturday night against the Revs, there was something going on where one of the drummers in one section was slightly ahead of one of the drummers in the other section. So the entire game you had two supporters groups singing the same chant with one about a second ahead of the other. Not sure who was at fault but this is not usually the case at Red Bull Arena. It sounded bad though.

Agree. Looking at these videos, I also think that Saunders could have done more. On the first, he is slow coming out on Gio. On the second, he stumbles trying to address the cross.

Watched this game drunk after several mimosas at Nevada Smiths. Anyone from the forums there? It was kinda dead.

-Kwame only played because he was all we had at that spot. He cost us the game nonetheless and should never play again.
-Iraola was Yellow carded when that goal was coming. He also figured his CB wingert would be more useful than a dead cat. He learned his lesson in trusting him. Other than that decent debut. Cant wait to see more once hes acclimated.
-Mullins continues to show promise and it is great to see him score more.
-No start for poku? Damn shame.
-Grabavoy an aging nobody with ratchet hair (did he get a haircut?) continues to shock the soccer world on getting to play 90 mins. McNamara a young and rising player with goals under his belt for us, with equally ratchet hair, is subbed off. Kreis is a moron.
-Angelino continues to live up to his number and I cant wait to see more of him.

I cant wait till we have a full team with depth and we can shed the dead weight on this team. Hopefully when that comes Kreis will no longer deploy his lover boys. If he still does we are in for some trouble.

Giovinco though..that guy..wow.
