Official: Nycfc Signs (on Loan) Angelino

A) Let's assume he's here through the end of the season. He plays once he settles in. Or maybe he just stays until September when EDS starts back up. Either way, that's all or most of the season
B) Yes we do. But the 500k option makes him a Designated Player. His loan was only a season long loan. We haven't seen enough to think that you make him a DP.
C) This is true. But who is he playing ahead of? Diskerud? Shelton? Poku? Lampard?
D) You keep him around to the end of the loan, yes.
E) What leads you to believe that they would be open about ANYTHING?
A. If it is just until September then Calle will still be needed.
B. Allocation money.
C. Mix? No. Shelton? Yeah probably. Lampard? no. Poku? Possibly.
D. Wasn't your argument that we should let him go?
E. Fair point. Although they have told us about Taylor and Gooch's injuries.

This leads me to believe that we won' tbe seeing Calle again this year. His injury must be worse than they are letting on to.

You don't take a kid on a loan like this unless you are goign to play him. Calle is on loan as well. I wonder if Calle is gone.

That was my first thought as well, but trying to be more optimistic, maybe they want to play Calle at LM to add speed and D to help Pirlo:

-----------------------Saunders
Iraola----Hernandez----Facey----Angelino
----------------------Pirlo
------------Mx-----------------Calle
-------------------Lampard-----
---------------Nemec------Villa

Calle would add some defense to the mid as well I really like this line up. Hopefully everything comes together soon.

With Calle/Angelino and now Iraola, and with a packed MF, it begs the question of whether we should consider a 3-5-2.

The only issue is that we're probably a CB short. Maybe there is an Iraola type CB signing we don't know about it, but if you could go Facey/Hernandez/New CB, it allows you to pack the MF and play two WBs with Angelino/Calle wide left and Iraola wide right. Improves our width of play, let's Pirlo/Mix/Lampard dominate a MF and probably gives Villa more space to operate.

Could Jacobson play as a CB/Sweeper? Honest question. I don't know - would like thoughts from others.

My take on this rumor/reality is that Facey and MCFC both think his stint with NYCFC has been great for his development. Working your way into our 18 and into our starting lineup is not easy and Yankee Stadium with 25K fans is a great place to learn how to play under pressure. Positions where there are real shots for someone (RJ Allen) to come and quickly compete for playing time are positions where I am hoping top MCFC prospects want to come to NYCFC on loan instead of playing on the MCFC youth team. We are stronger with Facey/Angelino loans than without.

What if the relationship played out this way - at the beginning of the season, Kreis and Veira singled out 10 EDS players who could make the trip over. We take March-June to see where our team needs help, either because of injury or lack of form. Then we try and fill in with loans from the EDS side. What do you all think?

Because if Calle is here and playing well, Angelino probably doesn't join. Conversely, if Facey is not playing, he probably goes back.

How did it take them so long to figure out Facey was better than Wingert at CB? Facey looked good there in preseason. He had to look faster and smarter there in practice. Same with Macnamara. How can you see him in practice and not be like he needs to play. And the injury doesn't apply, he could have been coming in at the end of games for 15 minutes etc. Its not like he magically healed to 90 minute fitness overnight.

I agree, but he did have a month of family issues, maybe his head wasn't in it at practice. Also that red card vs Colorado didn't help. Still unsure why Kreis initially decided to play him out of position.

I wonder if MCFC wanted him playing at FB. Facey is pretty short for a CB, which he might be able to get away with in a second tier league, but not in the Champions league.

Unfortunately for them (and perhaps fortunately for us), he's just a short CB who might top out at being a good MLS defender.

We finally have the fullbacks to play the formation Kreis has wanted to play all season (diamond) effectively, and you think we should try out something else entirely? The Facey-Hernandez partnership has finally settled and you wanna fuck with it? Not to mention a back 3 is notoriously specialist and difficult to play in. most of these players will never/barely ever have played in a back 3.
Also, we are struggling for CBs as it is, why would we start playing a 3rd one?

This makes no sense at all.

Seems like it's official. Loan until end of MLS season.

Angelino to join New York FC on loan

Quotes from Angelino:

"I’m very happy for the opportunity that Manchester City and New York City FC have given me."

"To be able to play in MLS is a great opportunity for me and I am eager to get started. I can’t wait to get to New York and join my new teammates.”

“Being able to train and play in a professional league like MLS, and learn from coach Jason Kreis will help me develop further as a young player.

“I’m determined to make the most of my opportunity and give everything I can to help the team in our first season.”

This. Maybe MCFC wants him at RB. Jason played him there. We learned he is a better CB.

kun kun if you actually read my comments you would see that it was prefaced with us signing another CB

Hey there! Man City fan here who's been following NYCFC intently since it was first announced, as someone who takes an interest in our youth teams i thought I'd share my opinion of Angelino.

Far as I'm aware Kreis likes his Full Backs to provide width and attack, which is exactly what Angelino excells at. His pace, link up play and footballing intelligence for such a young man will make a fantastic combo with Villa out wide (he and another academy player Barker where a stunning combination this year). He is smart with possession and won't often give the ball away dangerously, along with a decent cross.

A lot of people say his defensive work is sub par but i feel for an attacking Full back its not that bad honestly, he normally has the pace to recover and once he's there he does well enough. His biggest problem is simply this'll be the first time he comes up against men, though he has a great character so don't expect him to shy from the challenge.

Hope that helped

I haven't seen much of this lad. Justt a few games that have been streamed.

From what I have read of those who go and watch our EDS team is that he is great going forward, but needs to improve defensively.

It will be interesting to see how he develops over the next few months, and I am hopeful playing in a competitive league will improve all aspects of his game.

Very surprised with this one ,thought city would have wanted to hold onto him if koralov is going.not sure he will end up a left back ,better going forward than defending.
He made the bench for the first team last year

Said it many times that Angelino would be perfect for NYCFC. Glad to see he's coming.

He is too light and inexperienced to be part of Man City yet
