Official: Nycfc Signs (on Loan) Angelino

Hey there! Man City fan here who's been following NYCFC intently since it was first announced, as someone who takes an interest in our youth teams i thought I'd share my opinion of Angelino.

Far as I'm aware Kreis likes his Full Backs to provide width and attack, which is exactly what Angelino excells at. His pace, link up play and footballing intelligence for such a young man will make a fantastic combo with Villa out wide (he and another academy player Barker where a stunning combination this year). He is smart with possession and won't often give the ball away dangerously, along with a decent cross.

A lot of people say his defensive work is sub par but i feel for an attacking Full back its not that bad honestly, he normally has the pace to recover and once he's there he does well enough. His biggest problem is simply this'll be the first time he comes up against men, though he has a great character so don't expect him to shy from the challenge.

Hope that helped

Who would you compare him to? Sounds like Seamus Coleman, but on the left. Coleman sometimes lacks defensive intellect, but makes up for it with his speed. Coleman has been tried as an out and out winger in certain formations, but is usually deployed as a Fullback.

Say Angelino comes over to NYCFC and he plays some in MLS, he gets really good in the NYCFC system and MLS style of play. He then goes back to Man City and the Premier League and can't make the conversation thanks to MLS and our small field. It's NYCFC secret way of getting players to stay forever.

I am not very comfortable with this latest news. Just at a time when it seems the team is beginning to geld together and it has improved. The players are familiar with each other and now in the middle of the season we are having 2 new players: Are we the experimental ground for MC? To keep its players fit so that when they start their season, they take our players like what happened with Lampard? I dont know much the business side of sports but as a fan that spends money to support the team, this news makes me mad and concerned.

It shouldn't, our defense is dog shit. Angelino wasn't going to play for Man City yet he's too young and they were going to loan him out anyway. If he could help us which he can then its a great pick up.

Easy. We beat Philly and Montreal. We didn't play DC United, Seattle or LA Galaxy.

I agree our defense is very , very bad, but it seems MC has first claim. It may be that MC is the favored child of the investors/ owners and we are considered the poor relatives.... and why on loan? so if this fellow is not good MC has not spent any energy on using us as their field testers, and If he is good then they keep the player to their hearts content.
Oh well, lets see what happens, I will say a prayer. Oh Good lord may this Angelino , be the brick wall NYCFC needs.

An young, talented and ambitious Spanish player don´t sign for a club outside Spain unless it´s a recognised top club..

In board terms yes, or the Bale Left Back of old ( purely style, not ability). Great attacking/link up instincts and I wouldn't be surprised to see him move up field later on, in any case will give NYCFC a tasty attacking option down the left and perhaps even enchance the performances of Villa if they develop a good understanding.

I think you might be being a tad pessimistic :) Look at it this way, its the transfer window and every MLS club is going to be looking to improve and NYCFC has managed to aqquire a potentially brilliant LB option that no other MLS club could get, one of an elite european clubs star academy prospects and the worst case scenario is you have to pack his bags and say 'sorry buddy not good enough, got anyone else in that £200million academy knocking about?'. As a new club, NYC was always going to have glaring weaknesses in the opening season, and will likely continue to do so for a couple seasons until a team can be built and molded (see: Rome/timebuilt). The links with MCFC means caps can be pluged, and new assests can be got as needs must.

If that doesn't help I'd just like to add I'm personally excited about Angelino signing on loan, not because he's a city academy player, but because he's legitimately exciting, and will bring an extra dimension to the team.

You're a better board addition than most. Thank you man. I know what you mean about the FB Bale. Great speed. Better going forward than backwards. But incomplete.

I agree with the Bale style comparison, think he will end up playing further forward in time.
Think people have to remember he's only 18 and never played any senior football.
The standard of mls shouldn't bother him but the physical side might as he is very small build

A Champions league club could be anything outside the top levels.. Like say Celtic or Sevilla, it wouldn´t apply to teams like Bate Borisov or Sheriff Tiraspol :D

would imagine Celtic is a good guess, especially the Guidetti deal last year.

Vieira on Angelino: "The person, the football, the respect, the completion of the boy, of the player. I’m in love with him."

Almost as creepy as this:
