Our transfer window excitement meters all go to 11. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and...

- Oh, I see. And most clubs go up to ten?

Exactly.

- Does that mean it's better? Is it any more exciting?

Well, it's one better, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most clubs, you know, will be signing transfers at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your new signings. Where can you go from there? Where?

- I don't know.

Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?

- Put it up to eleven.

Eleven. Exactly. One better.

- Why don't you just make ten better and make ten be the top number and make that a little more exciting?

Ours go to eleven.

I can already picture this look almost everywhere he goes:

I see us bringing in a young USMNT DP level player in two to three years.
RIGHT NOW the main thing is to grow the NYCFC brand in NYC and CFG just hit a grand slam by acquiring a world class player from EPL, La Liga and Seria A
30,000+ per game people
Bingo....people act like developing you talent, or bringing in young dp talent and bringing older, very promising, well established stars from other leagues are mutually exclusive. We already have Mix who is young and is american and when combined his total salary, could very easily be a young DP. What Stefan Bondy reported was just a chance for NYCFC haters to see, YOU SEE, I told you so!!!!....to which my response would be, see what, told me what?????? We have three great players in lampard, Pirlo, and Villa, and also lets not forget Ireola, combined with a core young players of Mix, Shelton, Facey, Ballouchy (I know he has been around a lot but he is still legs are still relatively young), McNamara, and last but not least Poku.....I think so far this roster gives us a lot of both, I for one am a very happy NYCFC fan today. The future is bright!

In this case, I am glad CFG stepped in. Pirlo over Movsisyan any day of the week and twice on sunday. You kidding me?

Movsisyan would have been a great signing. 27 year old imposing striker playing well in Europe and has demonstrated success in MLS.

Thing is, Pirlo is a greater signing, and Movsisyan will still be a great signing two years from now.

I'm 100% with Kreis approach to the 3rd DP spot, but I'm with CFG here. Pirlo is a trump card.

So our potential lineup looks like this.
GK: Saunders
RB: Ireola
CB: Facey
CB: Hernandez
LB: Winger/Brovsky
LM:Ballouchy
RM: Mix/Alvarez/Grabavoy
CDM: Pirlo
CAM: Lampard/Poku
ST: Villa
ST: Nemec/Shelton/Mullins

Assuming it is a diamon midfield but chances are it won't be, but regardless of how the mid looks, this is a very good lineup, assuming all healthy of course. I would take my chances with this team for the rest of this year against anyone. Not saying we are winning MLS cup but, on paper, this is a good team.

Nature of sports is the dueling priorities. We want some success ASAP, understandably so. The owners want this to, but we also understand the need for long term vision. Here's the thing. It will take a couple years for a new club, owner, etc to fully adjust to the business climate of MLS. (Or any league). Thus long term planning cannot be Implemented fully for a few years. In the meantime might as well bring in stars, keep attentions high and make some playoff runs. Success now = time to build later. If they fail out of the gate then they have far bigger issues in the future, including stadium building.

Plus Pirlo is a God!

No doubt Movi would have been a very good signing. But the thing with Pirlo if you are CFG is this. Star Quality, fans will come to see, especially giving the italian population in NYC. and Pirlo provides stability infronnt of the backline and can disturb the ball like a MOFO, take free kicks, is cool under pressure, won't get scared with pressure coming at him, thus giving more time to our guys to get in great position, and the ball movement should improve. Pirlo is a no brainer, even if we didn't have a spot for him. A player like him you make room for.

We have Mix , Poku, and if we can keep him Facey as young talent to build around and hopefully we'll be investing in our own academy as well as getting players on loan from Manchester's I'm fine with going veteran for this move especially considering who the veteran is.

For those of you complaining (still), we have Pirlo and Lampard for 1.5 seasons. Let's say in January of 2017, when both are gone, we get a guy kind of how Giovinco ended up in Toronto. Maybe a guy like Dzeko. Then you enter the season with two DPs but get a third in the summer on a free.

What's so bad about that?

Interesting that the Yankees were part of the negotiations. Which means the Steinbrenners are footing part of the Bill.

I don't think it actually says that.

Negotiations for Pirlo’s contract were said to be handled by his agent and Ferran Soriano, the chief executive of Manchester City, a parent club, along with the Yankees, of New York City F.C.

The Yankees' reference is just naming them as the other parent club to NYCFC.

How do we expect the New York Italian community to react to this? I'm sure we do have plenty of Italian fans (overall and I'm some posting on here) but I've found a fair number (at least here in CT) who have always been very dismissive of MLS and many (even second third generation) who won't even root for the USA Nats never mind follow MLS.
