Official: Pirlo Signs With Nycfc... Soon?

This tweet pisses me off.

We've seen Kreis's attempts to build a roster, handling the MLS aspect of it. Every team in the league has someone who has the final say in transfer decisions. Our guy just happens to have experience doing it for Champions League teams. It only makes sense that he would handle things in the broader world market.

What the hell is wrong with people? He made a decision I hate before. He looks to have made a good decision here.

These people want to push their narrative so hard, they force the story even in the face of a fantastic signing.

Kreis shouldn't be making DP decisions right now. We've all agreed Lagerway built his prior team. Don't play into these media trolls.

They would shit on us for something, no matter what.

Davo15 Davo15 I don't think they care.

Italians here watch the Yankees. Their parents and that generation watch Juve or Milan

Case in point - guy I work with. He's 45. His cousin is 45. They bought their dads tickets to see NYCFC in late July because he saw the news that Pirlo was (probably) coming. The dads are Milano and root for Milan. The sons could care less.

So the news out of the Italian outlets regarding his start date...apparently in lieu of a transfer fee, Pirlo will play for Juve until Feb, then come here.

Whether or not that's true, we'll find out. But remember, if the team comes out and says that, nobody told us otherwise, so there's no one to flame. Guess we can still sign a 3rd DP this year too. But it doesn't make sense to sign someone for next year, unless there's something else more to it. We'll find out sooner than later.

Not to mention, it's probably overblown. Of course two people in management are going to have different opinions, because they're two different people. What matters is how contentious it is. Maybe Reyna/Kreis valued (1) skill, (2) age, (3) name and CFG valued (1) skill, (2) name, (3) age. R/K said I prefer X, but Pirlo is good too. CFG said we're going to go Pirlo, R/K said alright.

The tweet still applies, but it's not even close to noteworthy. It's just minutes from a board meeting.

All true. But you have to think they won't leave us without a 3rd DP for the end of this year, and he'll be gone for a month at least next year.

I am betting CFG is sensitive enough to the damage over Lampard that they wouldn't pull a sign and wait again, even if the circumstances were much less nefarious.

Are there new reports on this, or the same ones from like two days ago?

Lol, only one team in MLS could sign Pirlo
and the MLS 'media' make it out to be a bad thing. I used to think the hate for this club was overblown, but the seething jealousy from other fans and the clueless soccer media is laughable.

This club will be a monster in this league.
All those suckers out there better get used to it.

This ain't the Redbulls folks.

The happiest guy tonight? Don Garber. Chose a CFG ownership group over PSG.

Next up? Owners/Operators of the stadiums we are visiting. I'm sure TFC loved selling out last night. Same with NYRB a few weeks back. Galaxy will love it when we come to town. Places like Montreal and Dallas where there is never a sellout, will see a bump in attendance.

This brings in more revenue for the whole league. Whether or not the owners spend is another thing.

Is there a TV deal for MLS in Italy?

Within the last 24 hours La Stampa, La Gazzetta dello Sport and Football Italia all mentioned reports that...

"suggest NYCFC & Juve have worked out a time-share scheme with Pirlo for next season.

The 36-year-old is likely to remain in Turin for the first half of the campaign, then leave in February to join New York City FC.

I know that they have been on this season in Italy. Our new global rights partnership has yielded some good results all around the world. I will try to track down what network has the rights in Italy, but I do know an Italian who was happy to be able to see games fairly regularly this season.

Sounds like there's a free vacation for someone in this deal.

In all seriousness, I honestly don't see why CFG would make that deal. It defies all logic to me. Since I don't think Soriano is an illogical person, I have to question it.

Nevertheless, thank you for the updates.

Someone named Will Parchman wrote an absolutely idiotic article in response to the rumors that CFC did an overrule to push Pirlo through. Is this guy actually supposed to be a journalist ? Never heard of him before.

They said there was no need for another team in New York.

Team draws more than Redbulls already.

They said playing at Yankee stadium would be a disaster.

Not ideal but despite not starting well lots of fans love the atmosphere.

Said the supporters group was staff members and had no real fans...

Lol

Don't reason with these idiots, they don't listen.

Keep supporting the team because these haters won't stop spewing they're uninformed nonsense. We know on the whole the club is making good decisions; they've made mistakes no doubt, but not enough to justify the amount of hand wringing out there.

No expansion team, even the Sounders got this much criticism. So they can laugh at the bad start and the fact the team plays in a baseball stadium. They won't be laughing for long!

*maybe still for a while on that stadium :)

Another one of the no nothing soccer 'media'.
He was laughing about the team not giving media access a few months ago. So how is he an expert on the inner decisions of this club?
All stuff pulled from his ass, like most of these bloggers.

Doesn't make sense to me either. I can see him getting a few weeks off then back to business...but the whole talk was him wanting another shot at the CL, he's got Euro right after. Why would he leave in the middle of the season? He'd just play out his contract there if he's going to play 1/2 a year. It's not like someone wouldn't offer him a contract after next year. So no. Not only would it be dumb for us to do that...It would be just as dumb for him as well.

Kreis being overruled is exactly the opposite of the Cavs asking LeBron who he wants in free agency. Interesting contrast between leagues.
