Official: Pirlo Signs With Nycfc... Soon?

All anyone needs to know about these "journalists" are they are the same people who pushed the "Mix hasn't performed well for NYC, not sure why he gets call ups" narratives.

Meanwhile, he's outplayed every midfielder on the U.S. squad except MB90. Seriously, one of them says one thing, and the rest just run with it. There is no way anyone who has watched our games with a shred of understanding of how soccer works, or even physics, would know that Mix hasn't been our problem. The problem lies in his lack of help. Same for Villa. So yeah, two guys who have shown their quality elsewhere just get here and underperform. Surreeee.....

Same dumbass minds, I tell you. They'll get over it. And when it's all said and done, the whole damn lot of them will owe a debt of gratitude to NYCFC and CFG for upping the level of the entire league.
You know what's funny, Wahl said last year
he doesn't watch MLS till the playoffs, so again, how does he know what is a good fit for our team? He hasn't even seen us play!

Knows more about what is a good fit for our team than Soriano even without watching us and having 5% of the soccer knowledge as Fran. Ooooookay Grant.

These media people have no friggin clue what's good or bad for the team. I'd trust the opinion of everyone on this forum before any of these meatballs. We're the ones that are physically and emotionally invested in this team. We are the ones watching. Besides the team, we are the ones who's opinions have weight.

You don't have to look too far to see what we are becoming. We are the Yankees of MLS. We will have the largest fan base and also the most haters. But we will do anything to win. I'm ok with CFG trying to bring in players like Pirlo and it not working. I want to support a team that is willing to take an aggressive approach and take chances. And just like the Yankees...a lot of their signings don't work out, but there are many that do. Or we can become the Mets...which for the sake of comparisons, I believe the Red Bulls are. Always a bridesmaid never a bride. We wanna be big, gotta think big. So i would love to have Pirlo now...if he comes in Feb, I'll be disappointed, but I'll get over it and be happy we at least have him coming. If he doesn't work out for us on the pitch...oh well we tried. I'm not there for the chicken wing bucket, I'm there cause I believe that we will become the Yankees, Canadiens, Cowboys of this league.

Its a good analogy. I mostly agree with your point, although I think Seattle has a pretty strong claim for largest fan base at the moment based on their monster attendance numbers. Give us a few years and if possible some trophies though and hopefully we are drawing those kind of numbers as well.

As for the CFG v. NY BS - this world of tweeting and blogging just makes it way too easy for irresponsible reporting and click baiting. Dead Prez said it best in Psychology "believe in none of what you hear and half of what you see."
Liked for the Dead Prez quote, although I do disagree just a bit that it's all clickbait out there. It's definitely worthy of asking the question if Pirlo fits the system, but in my view, it's a resounding "yes."

Pirlo is a signing that makes people stand up and notice, if anyone questions this signing I suggest the offical response should be "It's f**king pirlo!". Even at his age he is one of the best long range passers in the game and one of the best set piece specialists in the game, he'd be one of if not the best in those two aspects at any club in the world, the idea that some hacks are turning their noses up at that joining NYCFC is ridiculous. Yes we'd have a slow midfield but we'd also have one of the most intelligent midfields, and also the best passers. Frankly the idea of Pirlo smashing out hollywood passes to Villa makes me all hot and bothered.

By way of example, that misleading New York City FC Online account just posted the photoshopped picture someone made with Pirlo's head superimposed over Mix's with Reyna when Mix signed with the heading "It's Official." It's just so easy for the snowball effect of inaccurate info to be passed along. But I'm afraid that we have digressed with the posts about the veracity of the CFG v. NY BS, and I will now refocus on this monumental and game-changing signing of one of my all time favorite players!

I can't wait to see the line up and formation with Pirlo in it!
This is going to be controversial, but here's how I'm lining them up in Football Manager 15.

You play Pirlo as an enganche, minimizing both his liability as a defender and maximizing his ability to make the final ball, which is where we've struggled all year.

Keeping Jacobsen on the pitch also keeps the defensive triangle that has won us some games going, while keeping Lampard from having to track back *too much* on defense.

This is a fantastic attacking lineup with some defensive discipline.

That's why I just stick to here. We're all like minded individuals and enjoy the team. Same people that were here when we lost/drew 7+ straight are still here now. Just a bit more excited and optimistic before.
I've been told by a number of individuals that the club reads the forums and keeps tabs on us.
Having 1500 members provides then a good idea of where fans stand and if we were vocal about certain deficiencies it's possible they may have taken notice. Who knows there might be an RSL exodus.

Remember we do have Calle and he's close to being back.
I'd put him in the LM role as that's his natural position. Your back line is fine.
Then move Pirlo to CDM. Let him distribute. Mix to LM and Lampard up top. Poku and Villa are perfect.
I think that's the BEST 11 we have.
Calle has shown great ability on the ball and crossing. Would love for him to run down the left side with overlapping runs by Angelino. That's two players with ability to put the ball in the box.
Same down the right. Mix can run and take on defenders and then you have Iraola who can get forward and score goals to overlap him.
A+ lineup with very few deficiencies.

Lampard can get forward and into position to take a cross or a driven ball into space.

Imagine George John and Khiry come back strong (add Mullins, Tommy Mac, etc.) we will have some productive bench pieces as well.

A few reasons why I went with what I've got...

  • I wanted to minimize the ability for a team to take advantage of Pirlo defensively while accentuating his attacking talent. I think playing him further up the pitch helps to reinforce what still, frankly, is a leaky defense on occasion by keeping Jacobsen on. Pirlo's going to still have a massive impact on distribution from the enganche spot as he would deep in a Beckerman type of role.
  • I really don't know that Lampard can play CAM. To my knowledge, he's always been a shuttler, and that hasn't changed as his career's gone on. If you play Jacobsen at CDM, he has less need to track back to cover as a shuttler, allowing him to still make those patented late runs in the box while bossing the middle of the field. It's a comfortable role and you're eliminating some of the negatives of tired legs.
  • I think Calle is a fantastic option off the bench, but I've not been as high on him as I think others are. I certainly wouldn't send Jacobsen to the bench for him, even if Jacobsen has been prone to make a bonehead decision every few games. (Those were more prone to happen, though, before Facey locked down the other starting CB position.)
While I think the lineup you've put together can still win a lot of games, I'm sticking with what I've got for my FM save. ;)
